Alison,

How do you fax out?

Steve

steve,

how often do you need to fax something that cannot be scanned and sent via email?

when i get requests from clients for me to fax something, my typical response is this... "do you have an email where I can send that as a pdf attachment? you will have a much cleaner copy."

in fact, i don't think i have sent a fax in probably 9 months. we do have a fax line, but that is shared among 4 businesses. we receive faxes digitally and can send directly from any program that prints. i typically scan something and then fax it.

i know i am not alison, but i hope my input has helped.

ps... sorry if you don't like all lower case, but i am feeling caps key challenged today :new_smile-l:

If you really need to fax something out that for what ever reason you do not want to email, then just plug in your old fax to your phone line and fax it. As Steve said, he has sent one in nine months.

Ed,

You make good points. Right now I have a package with phone and internet service, with free long distance for about $50.00 a month. Cable service, not dsl.

:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:....swing by the house Joe, I'll throw you a bologna sandwich.

Kevin,
Can you throw in some tap water, I am tired of slurping from the puddles.:Eyecrazy::new_smile-l::new_smile-l:

I cut costs by telling my husband that he had to stop buying new tools. :new_2gunsfiring_v1:

The only thing I could cut biz wise is going to an efax. I haven't done so because my home phone is VOIP and I have the fax phone in case of an emergency. Voip is not good for 911, and with 2 kids, I can't take that chance.

To slightly redirect this thread, yet continue in the same vein: what are the minimum needs/requirements to run a residential appraisal business?

I ask this as I feel my position at our firm will likely end up one the cutbacks, and I am presently weighing my options... I realize this may be one of the worst times in the history of appraising for an appraiser to go out on his own, but this step will be purely out of necessity…

My list includes (compiled after reading this thread):
- Home Office
- PO Box
- Computer (with monitors)
- Internet Service
- Printer/Scanner
- Cell Phone
- FAX Device
- Appraisal Software
- Marshall & Swift Cost Handbook
- MLS subscription
- Business License
- E & O Insurance
- Car/Transportation
- Camera
- Tape
- Graph Paper
- Printing Paper
- Clients

What am I missing??

Windows XP has a fax in the system. Go to "printers and Faxes" to set it up. It handles incoming and outgoing over the phone line and works as long as the computer is on. My computer is off when I am not using it, so I use RingCentral.
