Speeding up the process of weight loss

If your ultimate goal of all of this hard work is to become healthier, I would definitely not suggest trying to lose 90 lbs in 3 months. That is extremely unhealthy and will take years off of your life, resulting in so many negative health side effects. If you want to be healthy and continue to lose weight, I think you need to be eating a healthy and balanced diet. If you are exercising 3-4 times a week already, then you need to alter what you consume. Eat a healthy breakfast within an hour of waking. This will jump start your metabolism for the day. Try egg whites and veggies, oatmeal and fresh fruit, greek yogurt and granola or toast and almond butter for example. Continue to eat healthy, vegetable based meals throughout the day - making smaller meals every three hours. This will keep your metabolism going throughout the day.

I heartily believe in the value of an organic brown egg almost every day, whole (yoke and white, just cooked until done). Cooking it in lard, butter and grease from bacon will certainly not be healthy. Try a few drops of extra virgin olive oil, with pan just hot enough to cook the egg (add a chopped green onion before it hardens and it will be great). The yolk is one of the most complete sources of nutrition on the planet (but nothing is nearly "complete"). Then there are boiled eggs, egg drop soup (one of my favorites), egg on toast (with semi-runny yolk). Have it with some organic greens for a great breakfast.

Statistical studies that lead to statements like "eating a breakfast which includes whole grains can lead to lower instance of heart disease" is bull. It's just that if you eat something good for you, like milk (preferably skim) or soy milk, and whole grain cereal, chances are you are substituting it for something unhealthy, like butter, lard and bacon with your eggs in the morning. Whole grains are very good, but the health benefit is in the switch, grains, like any other good thing isn't an antidote, they aren't magic pills (advertisers don't want you to know that info).

If there are three pillars to the American diet, it's butter, lard and bacon, the trinity of evils (sorry, I didn't say they werent' really GOOD!). You don't need to worry about cholesterol, the concept that it was a problem was just created out of a statistical study (guilt by association) and the conclusion of which was made by big Pharma. Cholestrol isn't the problem, it's the evil trinity and lack of fruits and vegetables in the American diet and all the fast food crap most people eat. Cholesterol is a fixation on a pill and profit, which is always more appealing than eating well.

When I feel a bit run down, the egg seemed to be a helpful part of getting back, together with regular exercise.

Ok, that's the end of my EGG commercial! Heeeehee! Poor little egg, so unloved you are!

I eat an egg for breakfast every day. I love a nice fried egg on salad with turkey bacon 'lardons'. That's fine French cuisine done healthy. :rof:

"Turkey Bacon Lardons", I love it, what a concept. If you start a healthy style restaurant, you will want to be in charge of writing up the menu.

I suppose you could put one over the public by calling it "Imported Lardon's from Turkey"

There is a lot in a name. When some culinary genius decided to call the Patagonia toothfish, a Chilean Sea Bass, it became a prestigious culinary sensation and great commecial success story. Same fish, just better name.

FYI Ray

FYI Ray, has anyone suggested you should focus on your percentage of body fat vs. weight? That may be a better indicator of health.

Also, I can easily follow a low-carb diet if I have the following on hand:

1. Sugar-free Fudgesicles
2. Sugar-free ice cream
3. Turkey bacon
4. Good coffee

And, of course, after Phase I or whatever, I like to drink my carbs with dinner. LOL!!!

Stick with it! You'll feel great.

No Brag - Just Fact

Status up date.

Down three sizes in jeans, two sizes in shirts.

Working out five days a week in the gym now, 1/2 hour cardio, 3/4 hour weight circuit, 1/4 hour free weights. 3/4 to one hour in lap pool. one to two hour snowshoe or hike in the late afternoon in the woods every other day.

Cut food intake to 1200 to 1400 calroies a day.

Things seem to working great, haven't felt this good in years.woohoo

the young'ns over at the Ho-Chunk wellness center are now calling me dad. Some are sort of watching over me to see how long it takes me to catch up to them. I think they fear I am going to steal thier fillies. By giving me the handle Dad it reminds the young heifers that I am old enough to be thier dad or granddad.

I have also cut the appraisal stress down to just about 0, finishing up the last one tonight or in the morning. Don't know as to if I will take any more RE appraisals on for lenders. Just 9 weeks to go before I pull out for the high country for the summer. Got lots of things to get done.:Eyecrazy:

What an adventure, Ray! The most I ever lost was 20 pounds. All I did was to cook more for myself & not eat late at night, & skip sweet snacks while on appraisal inspections. It took about 3 months. I had been working out 3-4 times a week the whole time, so no change there. That took place between September and December in 1992. I am up 10 pounds since then.

Joke: The slim shapely woman ran into an old friend she hadn't seen in years. He said, "Sarah, you really look trim & hot!" Sarah replied, "Yeah, I got rid of 200 pounds of ugly fat."

Her friend, with an amazed look asked: How did you do that?"

Sarah replied, "I got a divorce.":rof:

As a former personal trainer and bodybuilder I recommend the slow and steady pace to weight loss. You are more likely to keep weight off when you lose 2-3 pounds per week rather thasn a crash diet where you drop 25 pounds in a month.

Low carb, no fat, no salt, no suger, etc. Lots of water, high protein and plenty of vegetables and fruit.

I'm an advocate of heavy weight training in addition to cardio for weight loss. Building a strong and muscular body with 6-10 reps of heavy weights hitting the entire body helps keep the body burning fat even when you are not working out.

When I hit a peak and feel I need a boost to lose a few extra pounds I do my tuna/water diet. For 3 entire days I eat nothing but tuna straight out of the can and drink nothing but water. By the end of the third day (working out hard all 3 days as well) I can feel fat falling off my body.

That tuna regimen sounds like an old Dave Draper diet! Yes, I go back that far and agree with your training although at age 51 for me the poundage is way less and the reps are slowed way down and greater in number. 15-20 reps and 3 count on the negative, 1 count on the positive side of the movement. No injuries or joint pain this way.

The problem with the tuna fish diet, is that you are eating tuna fish every day. I find that I am not capable of eating the same thing repititiously day in and day out, and that goes for tuna fish. It also goes against the natural instinct to not repeat foods (are you really hungry for tuna fish day 2 and day 3?). This is likely due to the increased chance of malnutrition with repetitious eating (a sort of evolutionary ingrained trait found in all animals, even tropical fish).

In the protein category, I have always found more realistic success at choosing a number of lean meat sources and cooking them up fresh, and cycling through fish, fowl seafood and other lean cuts. I would agree with the trainer's advice to really go heavier on the fruits and vegetables (forgoing the bananas, for that very occasional treat).

Quite honestly, I do on occassion enjoy eating with tuna right out of the can with the water left in, adding just a few drops of extra virgin olive oil. The small amount of olive oil really makes it so much better and its good fat.

Congratulations on your success.
