Ya got me--I am so embarrassed! Glad you found the wiki-answers entry on possessives--it should help you.

Relative to Festivus, when do we get to the "feats of strength?" Is that after the "airing of grievances?" I put my money on Delta for that one (assuming he's telling the truth about his physical characteristics--not that I would question anyone's veracity--why would I?).

"I could care less" vs. "I couldn't care less"

The Question Ends Here

When one usually states "I could care less", they usually mean "I could not care less". [e.g. "I could care less about linguistics."]
In order for one to "care less" about a subject, they must first care about it somewhat. Saying "I could care less about ... " does indeed imply, nay dictate, that there is some degree of care.
I've put together a handy chart to help visualize...

It can easily be seen that, in absolute terms, there is no caring at the zero marker. It is impossible to care less than that amount.

Let us use a different example...
  1. I could have less food.
  2. I couldn't have less food.
Which statement above means "I have at least some food", and which means "I don't have any food"?

I love this guy!

You won't find grammaticality and philosophy like this on any other chat site.

Maybe you should concentrate on helping yourself professor.

You know what they say about glass houses and stones and all that jazz right?

You should read these posts more carefully.

I read it perfectly well.

I told a story of a traumatizing incident in which a friend was punched and robbed in a high crime area and you made light of his misfortune by making a crack about girl scouts and crossing the street next time.

What am I missing?

It's funny what people feel they can get away with on chat sites. All this hog wash about spelling and proper English and basic decency is pushed to the side.

I wonder how you would feel if a family member or friend was beaten and robbed and was traumatized and someone came up to you on the street giggling about he better cross the street the next time he sees the girl scouts?

This may be apparent to others but not to you so here is my explanation:

I was not insulting your friend. Nor was I making light of what happened to him. I was insulting you! And more pointedly, I was making light of your attitude!

So much of what people fear on this forum never comes to pass. So much is urban legend. I know there are bad neighborhoods and, at times, bad situations to avoid, but not always and all the time.

People living in tough neighborhoods are people too. Most, are decent folks.

PS. Maybe its PP's shaved head that keeps him safe by giving him the countenance of Nemesis. It probably works for me that way too.

I never shoot my own photos, always use MLS, it's cheaper.

Me too--at least for the time being. Once I get released from jail for the trespassing conviction I may take my own again.

I know who you were insulting.

You can back peddle all you want but in the end you made light of a real incident in which someone was hurt and robbed.

To pretend the realities of the world do not exist is ignorant. To pretend extra caution in some areas is not warranted is ignorant.

Risking your safety and your car to get a comp photo is ignorant.

I wish those of you with this cowboy attitude well but I am not taking that risk for an appraisal report. I'm not obligated to nor does it make me less an appraiser for not taking that risk.

Perhaps the thin skinned should select another channel.
