The average IQ in the US is supposedly ~98, inclusive of our diverse population. That average is nowhere near constant around the world. Avg IQ in Singapore, Hong Kong and S Korea is 104-108. rthe Average IQ in Europe ranges from 95-102.

Comparing the avg. IQ of small city-states such as Singapore and Hong Kong and a small country with a homogeneous population like S. Korea with a large, diverse nation like the US is not an apples to apples comparison.

Disparity of population sizes? We can compare based on that

The nation of S Korea has a population of about 51M and the avg IQ there is supposedly 105.
In terms of population the next largest nation is Myanmar (87) and the next smallest nation is Kenya (80).

The nation of Japan has a population of about 127M and the avg IQ there is also supposedly 105.
In terms of population the next largest nation is Mexico (87) and the next smallest nation is Ethiopia (63).

I was reading a Q&A in Quora the other day asking about how well groups with vastly different IQ interact with each other and the response was that there's no problem when the disparity is within one standard deviation, but once the disparity gets beyond that both groups have trouble relating to each other. Which is why genius IQs tend to have trouble relating to people or more normal intelligence.

Apparently, the experience in Eastern Europe is different from that of western Europe, which has become a source of considerable friction between the EU and some of the eastern Euro nations because they are addressing their problem by avoiding it outright.

So much for "it's impossible to solve this problem and we just need to learn to live with it".

Statistics is typically accomplished by sampling the population to characterize the population.

Statistics can determine if two samples are significantly different to say that they represent two different populations.

Therefore it is proper to compare cities, states and countries to determine if they are statistically different.

Ascribing cause and effect of why there is a difference is not an inherent property of statistics.
