The Austin Board of Realtors (ABOR) is accusing CoreLogic, the vendor of its multiple listing service (MLS), of selling home sold data to Travis Central Appraisal District (TCAD), a county-level home appraisal organization.

“When we were made aware that our [MLS] vendor may have inappropriately sold MLS data, we demanded they stop immediately and take the steps necessary to destroy that data,” ABOR said in a statement. “They agreed.”

Theft of MLS data is more common in appraisal land than most people realize. In fact, one of the top reasons we deny appraisers who apply for our panel is the discovery that they are stealing their MLS data (by using someone else's credentials).

I'm not even going to ask how SL discovers the theft....:)

But I will ask....
Does SL report the theft/thief to the proper MLS and to the appraisers who are being victimized?

Discovery is simple. For new applicants who are in areas with an MLS system we require a screen shot of the applicant logged onto that MLS showing their name on the screen. Most who are caught will simply claim that sharing of credentials is allowed under their MLS rules, and we then ask them to provide documentation of that. We will concurrently contact the MLS to verify. To date, we have not encountered an MLS system that allows an appraiser to share credentials with another appraiser. Many do allow sharing with administrative assistants. In most cases the "victimized" appraiser has willing shared the credentials with a friend, associate, etc.

I pay for MLS. My login is NOT my name it is a number. Same with password

Sure. That is very common. We are not asking anyone to reveal their login credentials :)

Federal ID, MLS Login Credentials, Social Security Number, Mothers Maiden name, First Pets name, and street you lived on in first grade. Anything else master? Are your sure I'll make it up in volume? I don't have to inspect? Great! AMCs, what a concept! :rof:

What is your deal with Wiley?

In my MLS settings my name does appear....
But on the login screen it is just my # and password....

From this portion of your response I'm going to glean that SL contacts the MLS paying appraiser member....
Otherwise it would mean SL is taking the word of the appraiser applicant....

Specific question....
Does SL notify the MLS that Mr/s appraiser is sharing his/her credentials with a non-member to access MLS?
