master bedroom

Look who doesn't agree. I don't want to get political so I'll just say is comes from the current HUD opinion and the NAR. No surprises here.

The National Association of REALTORS® told the Houston Chronicle that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has advised the association that the term “master bedroom” is not discriminatory and that its usage does not violate any fair housing laws.

“NAR sees no reason that real estate professionals cannot use the term, as there is also no evidence that it has any historical connection to slavery or any other kind of discrimination,” NAR President Vince Malta said in a statement.

Political correctness is NOT about refraining from referring to a particular group of people using some derogatory term. I am fine not purposefully calling someone a name that an entire group of people find largely offensive.

But, it is quickly evolving into a full-on infringement on freedom of speech. If left to continue, mute people may well be the only ones left in the employment pool, as every one of us say things every day which offend someone somewhere. Would any of us even have jobs if we were famous or public enough to have had all the conversations in our lives aired on twitter, facebook, and the 6PM news? But it's not even stopping there--now our very thoughts are on trial. 1984 indeed. Doubleplusungood.

This nation is getting so weak and easily offended that we will soon be prime takeover targets for China, Russia, Iraq, etc. Perhaps some want that, IDK. Perhaps some want the Biblically prophesied one world government to expedite its showing. All I know is we are all different, have different likes, different social beliefs, etc, but the demand for tolerance seems to be flowing in primarily one direction of late. Tolerance is a TWO way street. My best friend in this area has diametrically opposed political beliefs than I do, but we are both mature and strong enough in our beliefs to have some fascinating and sometimes profitable and educational discussions about them. I respect him, though I often disagree with him.

And to any who are offended by this very post, I say....exactly my point.

Why is it so hard to go a little bit out of your way to not do something positive about a shameful and horrible part of our past (and present)?

Not wearing a sheet with eye holes, telling tasteless jokes, and bragging about all your "insert culture here" friends is not a measure of caring and respecting your fellow citizens. We need to be more proactive and positive. IMO

"Master" bedroom is that triggering?

"Master" bedroom is that triggering?

Not to me. But then I was not directly impacted by events over the last 400 years.

Does one have to be "triggered" to do the right thing? What's the problem?

There haven't been slaves here for over 150 years but Master is an issue.

Seems some are looking for a problem

I'm not looking for anything.

Why does this bother you so much?

150 years ago, after serving in the confederate army, my great, etc., grandfather returned to his farm in VA, packed up the personal belongings and whatever furniture that was left, and headed for Texas and eventually California. The slaves he had inherited were long gone by the time he got back home.

Why does this bother you so much?

Simple, tired of all the BS. Cancel culture, BLM, LGBTQ and all the rest of the fringe groups that have captured the fancy of (formerly) normal people. That's all.

I am going to be proactive - My family was running from Hitler, and died in gas chambers so just stop it and crawl into your progressive little Covid-19 safe space, you have never seen anyone with a sheet and eye holes, you were a spoiled little ***** like me that grew up in Claremont where we thought persecution was being 25 cents short for lunch, and then there were no jobs. Please stop You are upsetting my stomach, I have no problem listening to someone who was oppressed but it was and is not you :)
