TAF is preparing for the avalanche of lawsuits coming their way. The time is ripe.

Apparently so. Some people really seem to be getting worked up over these things.

Indeed. Lots of money to go around. TAF should “spread the wealth.” All for the public trust, of course.:giggle:

That $70 of yours that they've retained in reserves is really eating at you, isn't it?

Speaking personally, if I had my druthers I'd rather see them reduce the CE requirements back down to what it used to be before they jumped it to 14 hours/year, because even though I'm not paying that money to TAF, those extra CE hours have been costing me a lot more than the (total of) $70 in reserves they've managed to accrue from me over the last 30 years.

It’s actually $200.00+ when you consider the course. Not to mention the other 21 hours of “continuing education” every 24 months.

We purchase the USPAP editions and student handbooks from TAF. All the other costs you're referring to are being paid to outside vendors who aren't paying anything to TAF. As I say, I think there's room to reduce the number of CE hours we are required to take. That reduction in costs would far exceed what I pay to TAF.

Speaking of which, you must *really* hate your CE vendors and your state because you've been paying them 10x more than you've been paying TAF.

TAFs grants from the ASC have been paid by the ASC, who we've been paying $25/yr for maintaining our entry on the National Registry.

Spin it. However, you like it. The point is that appraisers are forking over $200.00 plus for USPAP courses every 24 months, which does not include the other 21 hours(at least in my state) of CE. And TAF does not allow for any discounts on any of their courses. This comes directly from Mcksissock, who told me that the Appraisal Foundation does not allow them(Mcksissock) to offer a dime off their courses.

Incorporation by reference (IBR) allows Federal agencies to comply with the requirement to publish rules in the Federal Register by referring to materials already published elsewhere. The legal effect of incorporation by reference is that the material is treated as if it were published in the Federal Register. This material has the force and effect of law, just like regulations published in the CFR. Congress authorized incorporation by reference in the Freedom of Information Act to reduce the volume of material published in the Federal Registerand Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Incorporation by reference is only available if the regulations are published in the CFR.

oh my. where in the constitution does it allow for such law writing. really, they could incorporate russian laws without one elected official writing a word. oh never mind, just let alalogic write it all.

I'm telling you that whether directly or indirectly, you're only paying TAF an average of perhaps $60/year. $50/yr for the USPAP publication, maybe $5/yr via the ASC in your licensing fees, and $5/yr for the student manual or its equivalent. All your other payments are either going to your state or to CE vendors.

My 2-yr license renewal fee that I'm paying to the State this year is $925, part of which goes to the ASC.

Moreover and WRT the services TAF provides to you as a professional appraiser, there is no alternate universe where you would be getting those for free. You'd still be paying, whether it was to TAF or to the AI or Fannie or to the govt in the form of higher licensing fees. The only difference is the govt would screw it up because the decision makers are not appraisers. That means that whatever inputs you and any other appraiser wanted to provide had would be completely ignored instead of actually being read for content and discussed by the committee or dept or czar that's making those decisions.

And all the clients that appraisers are supposed to be independent from,

Get to pay for the privilege of helping to write the appraiser rule book.

Never wonder why AOs and FAQs outnumber standards, rules and comments, 2-1+
