Most appropriate Leica Disto Model

After about a year of use I have found that I like my X4 better than the D810 for the smaller form factor and because the touchscreen on the 810 makes it way too easy (for me) to get it into the wrong measuring mode. Probably user error on my part which could be resolved with practice however I've been using these since the original brick model (which I keep in my desk as an absolute last backup, along with the cool little sighting scope Thomas Holding described that magnetically attaches to it in a separate holster). I still carry the 810 with me though and use it when I run out of double A's for the X4. Haven't had any problems at all with the X4, although the older I get the more I wish they would make the little red dot bigger or put a flasher mode on it. It would be much easier to see a flashing red dot that would turn solid when you press the "measure" button.

I will be going for Certified Residential and plan on staying in residential for the foreseeable future.
If you intend to integrate with a hand held in the field sketching device or the like, perhaps a high end device is justified. But if you are simply transferring the numbers to paper or even blue tooth, you might want to look at this one - which is not a DISTO, but it has a camera that will locate your red dot much easier in low light. It is bluetooth equipped. Reconditioned units are less than $200.

I picked up GML400c which I guess is discontinued, for about $200 on flea bay.
I can toss those red glasses now, it's great.

I started on the lower cost Disto D2 ($150 or so), and it bit the dust literally a few weeks outside of the 2 yr warranty and wouldn't take a reading anymore. Customer service said they'd offer me the discounted price of $150 on a new one... which is the exact same price as you can find it anywhere. Lol. After being irritated with Leica, I went and tried out some no-name brands from Amazon for the 300+ ft models. Tacklife for $60 did awesome for the 1.5 yrs it lasted and the laser was brighter than the Disto, but now won't read very far and they took it off Amazon. Mileseey for $30ish was hot garbage.

I was hoping to try out a camera model laser, but the reviews for the D810 or whatever that has the camera weren't very good, so I've just ordered another D2. Did you mean the Bosch camera works in bright light or low light? If it worked well in bright light I'll sure try it out.

I bought a D2 and a D810 at the same time several years ago. I use the D2 almost exclusively while the D810 stays in the pickup for special occasions (if I can figure out how to run it on the spot!). Were I in your shoes, I would just get the D2 to begin with.

As some of you folks, I have trouble seeing the red dot over 15 to 20 feet on sunny days. Have any of you tried the green glasses they sell? Does it help?
The camera on the Bosch that I showed above has a cross hair allowing you to center it on the target - the purpose of the camera is to center on the dot- you don't have to see the dot. You do have to zero it when you first get the device.

Anyone every get the Disto X4 to work with Total for Mobile. I see posts (now) that it didn't play well with Total for Mobile in 2020. I misplaced my Disto 810 (now found) and picked up an X4. Both phone and X4 indicate they are connected but the number does not transfer. Might just return it (if I can find the box!).

Thx

I did get a response from Leica - Disto Support: "A La Mode, was bought out by Core Logic and since this happened, we have been unable to connect with their app development team to get the newer X3/X4 integrated."

So now I know, returned X4 and getting another E7500i. Having all the (accurate) dimensions load right into the sketch with one swipe of the finger is just smooth and fast!; not going back to the Neolithic era!

Hi Tim. Can you add and subtract just lengths on the GML400c? I haven't been able to find out online, one person said no. (i.e. hit one single length measurement then add or subtract the next(s)). I know it will add areas, but not sure about single lengths. Thanks.
