PAREA: Darn the torpedoes / 3 Sheets to the Wind

For anyone who cares, per reports in other forums the FL board (FREAB) officially adopted/approved PAREA today for 100% Cert Res experience, and 50% Cert Gen experience (a PAREA bill was already approved by the FL legislature). And AMCs accusing appraisers of "ghosting" was discussed.

The FREAB is known for usurping the state legislature. Let’s see if they do it with PAREA. If they don’t, you know the fix is in. I tried to make it, but I was unable. I had real work to do.

What did you hear about "ghosting," And what business is it of FREAB? If the appraiser wants to be a poor business person, that's up to them.

They did not per reports in other forums, PAREA is now an official path to certification in FL.

Several AMC reps made appraiser "ghosting" their new cause cé·lè·bre at the recent AARO meeting.

It would be interesting to know how much Bunton and the boys shelled out to get this approved. That six million dollars “rainy day” fund was put to good use. I am sure.

I wonder what the total cost will be start to finish to become certified using PAREA?

But there currently aren't any PAREA providers who have a program available, correct? If so, it's not an official path until they do, right?

Will probably depend on who you are. I would guess there will be a plethora of our dollars available to anyone who claims they can't afford it on their own. Just another free education avenue in America!

The states had to approve/adopt the path and criteria before the providers know what to include (i.e. including state specific QE in the course or if a state's criteria exceeds the AQB minimum). Now that states are falling in line expect the courses to move forward.

The Louisiana Legislature just passed the bill allowing PAREA, last I heard it's waiting on the Governor's signature. It reads, in part, "... submitting an official PAREA program completion certificate to evidence satisfactory completion of all education and experience necessary for licensure as either a licensed residential appraiser or as a certified residential appraiser, according to the qualifications required by The Real Property Appraiser Qualification Criteria...." Our state board will adopt the path in short order, they really have no choice. Once that happens the providers will be able to finalize their course for Louisiana and submit it to the board for approval. I expect other states have a similar if not same process.
