I haven't used that term in many years. Condition is condition.
Deferred maintenance is a very common and descriptive term further illustrating what goes into my condition rating. I use it in every report, noting what it is, or the fact that there is none.

Not on that one... Question: Is a church a place of worship?

Reason I'm asking is that my first reaction to this request was similar to yours. Upon reflection, however, I decided that it did not impair my analysis to call the building a place of worship - even though the sign out front CLEARLY said 'Church'. So then I had to ask myself: why the angst? At the end of the day - it was primarily about the 10 minutes or so I would have to spend revising the report... decided I could live with that. I get it if others don't share my view, though.
You've honestly had more angst over my post than I have had over the entire issue. I will continue to use church and am willing to lose clients over it. Not interested in chasing this rabbit...

I've honestly had ZERO angst over your post. You may have missed part of the post. I'll repost for you so you don't have to go back: "I get it if others don't share my view, though."

I have to call out the church if not by name but as place of worship. Church can be negative impact on subject being so close to it. Not everyone likes churches near them.

Well maybe angst wasn't the right word...interest? Concern? Curiosity? :)
I'm just saying I have not spent any time thinking about my stance or why I have it, or wondering what I will do if pushed, because I already know I will find another client. If there are none left that align with how I think, I will find another career. Already have one foot out the door as it is, have revamped my resume and will start looking next week in all likelihood.

I think George only one with problem indicating maintenance.

I absolutely was curious about why that was such a big deal for you. You're a pretty level headed bloke, and it was a situation similar to what I've been through. I fell on the 'not a big deal' side - whereas you obviously didn't. It's ok - folks disagree.

I get where GH is coming from - and I've no doubt 'deferred maintenance' will suffer scrutiny at some point. However: (1) that term addresses building components - not people, and (2) at this point, there really isn't a good alternative term. That said - depending on how the term is used, it COULD put the inhabitants in a poor light if used incorrectly. For instance: "There was lots of deferred maintenance, indicating lack of attention to the condition of the property." Now you're talking about people, not building components.

Just one of my lines in the sand. I think you know my views and Christian faith well enough. :)
And I lose no more sleep over it than someone blaspheming Jesus. Yes He is a big deal to me, but I understand not everyone agrees. TETO.

Ok - so much of your animosity at banning the word 'church' has to do with your religious beliefs. That makes more sense.

Another question: Would you be as defensive if asked not to use the word 'mosque'?
