Update from Shane Lanham

So, does Lanham get a payout then? I mean..... he was slandered and dragged through the mud for 3 years with substantial legal fees. Probably lost a client or two because they just didn't want to deal with being associated with him due to the case. Where is his winnings now that his accusers were proven wrong?

how does winning feel... :rof:

His winnings are doing the right thing ( rare in this world). I sent a couple of payments to his GoFundMe for his defense, and if he needs it later for clients dumping him, we should all pony up. Hopefully, his clients did not dump him, and maybe he even got a new one. Or decided to pursue something else. I wish him the best of luck. Too bad the well-funded, powerful appraisal organizations and entities did not stand up to the phony charges and defend the profession via the market value process and how it works, the way a lone vulnerable appraiser did.

Without all the facts....
How would anyone on the AF....
Know who was right and who was wrong....

We tell people who ask questions regarding a specific appraisal....
We don't have sufficient data (haven't seen the property, comps, report, etc)....
So we can't give advice....
Yet for a lawsuit(s) in the court....
We have sufficient information....

We are not trying the case in court, The result of the court decision speaks for the fact that they had no data and no proof.

What I meant by his winnings was that the other side suing Lanham for being biased against them due to their race, should have been made to pay his legal fees. They lost after all in proving that accusation. A good thing to be sure.

Lanham's report however, in my opinion, was awful ("if" it was the same report posted here a few years back). I stated I wouldn't want to go to court with that appraisal in hand. Not because of it being biased, but because its lack of support for his opinion of value, adjustments, and mistakes.

The thread was something to the nature of "TAF paid over 500k to destroy Shane Lanham".

I'm glad he won though.

That's how our legal system works. It sucks.
There are many unfair laws out there and sometimes it's easier to settle to cut the losses.
It's admirable Shane stood his ground and defended his values.
There were two appraisals with different values. One of them was not done correctly.

It's funny how no one has seen the "correct" reports ( the extraordinarily High ones) in any of these cases.

I have never been able to under the critical review process. Prior to the 'review' the reviewer should go do an appraisal and see what they came up with. Then they can compare their report with the report being reviewed and submit their criticism. And the original appraiser should then get the reviewers report and criticism, and submit their comments. That would be the proper process. The whole concept of 'coming in low' is a flawed process. I was grounded in the scientific process from high school chemistry and physics (I set up lab experiments for 2-1/2 years in HS).
