3.6 Crunch Time

This is all due to the bailouts when the GSE's crashed the market with the help of wall street. None of those people went to jail. Here we are again. They know that if they crash the market again, they will be bailed out by congress with zero repercussions. This industry is such a joke.
NO ONE GOES TO JAIL. I've never even seen a $$$ Fine being issued to any AMC, Broker, Banker, et al. That really made any point. The G'ment will just continue to bail out the scum.
I want a Real Appraisal for MY PROPERTY, carefully executed and something I can rely on. NOT, a fast, cheap, bidded on by some newbie that is probably geographically challenged. It's my money "I want to use it now"....JG Wentworth

IDK why any young person with talent and ability would want the high-stress, low-paid job at an AMC. The AMCs can lay people off in slow times. I guess they will attract enough for their needs, but it will be a high-turnover, burnout group.

Most enter a profession to expect decent to good or better earnings and a chance for growth. And /or an intrinsic reward from the work itself. Toiling away at a pressure cooker AMC job offers neither. Not sure what you meant when you referenced a "larger firm.".

Most independent appraisers never owned a fee shop either. They were able to have a choice to operate as a fee appraiser., I see a need remaining for some fee appraisers as some lenders (hopefully) might continue to use their own panel and there is some private work to be had, or coverage where an AMC does not have enough staff.

The future might be different for a number of young people across the board, but this field is starting off in a bad place. An appraisal assessor job might be an option for some folks.
Talent and Ability ? Isn't required in a well operated assembly line.

Why is the apprasial profession with hundreds of thousands of dollars at stake in each loan turned into an assembly line where talent and ability don't matter?

At least you admitted it. I know the answer to my own quesiotn of course - to enrich the profiteers.

Do they now? Please cite your source. Appraisers are in the verification business, so I insist that you provide evidence of your statement.

Then Glenn wrote: “Ever talked to Walmart employees ? I have and believe it or not there are many who love it and stay for years”

I’m not sure what Walmart has to do with the appraisal profession. but the very fact that you juxtapose the two hints at what little regard you may have for the skills we appraisers possess But then I’m not surprised since you have never been an appraiser.

Why do I get the feeling that you are belittling this profession? Is it my imagination, or could it be based on the citations above?

I wonder how Glenn found the time to reach out to each one of the thousands of folks working for the largest AMCs to verify that they love working for them.

Why you think thousands is a large number ? How many appraisers you think are on the two largest AMCs rosters ? How many in California with a population of over 35 million people?

Question out of 60,000 appraisers how many take assignments from the AMCs ? Do the math it's not hard and many living in a bubble.

We know appraisers are taking AMC assignments. You're not telling us anyting we don't know. Still wondering how you know that thousands LOVE working for AMCs! (which is what you said. ) You don't have to answer. I am just being obnoxious.

Glenn, you’re substituting supposition for fact. Let’s be serious: what do you want from appraisers?

Okay they're miserable and just desperate for any work they can find and their lying and afraid that if they say it sucks, they will end up fired then end up at Walmart or driving for lyft.
