A.I. Stuff

Google is consuming 50% more energy now that AI is a 'thing'. Using their AI products has ramped up power uses dramatically. So much for their brag about being "net neutral" not to mention they build their computer banks near stable nuclear and fossil fuel plants and not out where the solar panels and wind turbines run. They buy their "carbon credits" to appear 'net neutral'... sure.

I absolutely believe that. I just finished a conversation with ChatGPT about designing a functional operator to work with matrix multiplication of MLS data with a vector of functions produced by R/earth. It is not always perfect. But it is getting very good. It can entertain suggestions you won't find in even advanced math books. And it can integrate this sort of thing with R language and so on. It is so impressive. Then I ask myself how much thinking it must be doing and how many watts it has consumed. In conclusion, I am getting a good deal. Of course, yes, it knows everything I have suggested. No privacy. But who in the world is going to rummage around in my work? Who has the time? Oh yea. I can live with it for sure.

Northern VA, a haven for data centers have massive power demands too people here dont really bring up that aspect they just decry them being built in their back yard.

You know.....I almost pushed "Start the Game" because I was curious. But, decided against it as I'm just about through with my 56 hours of continuing education for my 4 year license renewal cycle, and didn't want some virus or spyware on my computer to lose all my certificates. LOL
I would like the 4 year cycle. We are on 2 year cycle and license like $400 (somewhere in that ballpark). How much is your license renewal fee? I think TN is one of the highest license renewal fees in the States. Maybe more than $400 for CG. The best I remember, there is a significant difference between CG and CR and L.

Arkansas is $340/yr but because of a surplus of cash, they've discounted our fee to $265 annually. We have a 2 year license cycle but pay annually. Oklahoma is $325 or $340 if I recall correctly. Annual fee. My two licenses are now more than my E & O.

I go and visit my old man in Ashburn every few months and they multiply like mushrooms
