A Letter From The Appraisal Institute

Yes, I met one of those guys. He made my skin crawl. I can’t believe appraisers would let someone like that go to battle for them.

Not sure who mean, but I know them and I do not share that opinion.

AI folks are all the same. You bring up feelings, which typically mean you lost the argument. I met your old CEO at a conference, listen to her speak many times. Who you have at the face of your organization does matter. Think of how much better your profession would be if your organization advocated for appraisers as opposed to just handing out three letter certifications that get you an occasional job here and there.

I’ve sat at meetings with state boards, where your AI paid DC lobbyist walks in with the paid Revaa lobbyist, and they both hold the same exact position that the mortgage bankers association lobbyist holds. Let that sink in.

I spent 15 years in my state organization, trying to battle snake oil sales salesman with AI designations that advocated in direct opposition to what appraisers in this state wanted. What is interesting is anytime we would meet with the state AI board members, they would have the same opinions we do. But when national came in, they just sat there and did nothing and basically told us they’re not allowed to say anything that opposes what national is pushing.

It’s a corrupt organization, but hey, you do you

The AI has clearly become unethical, with much of it being controlled by powerful groups like the FOJ. Jimbo, who once earned over $500K annually, is now seeking to regain his position. Sadly, Cindy Chance had to be sacrificed in this power struggle. The old 'white boys' club refuses to take direction from anyone, especially not from a woman who holds strong ethical values. You should read her latest article—it's a must-read. Who do you think she’s referring to?

A follow up for anyone interested. I received an email today about QE for my son. The email acknowledged that the prior tickets/requests were not properly responded too. That's a positive and a first for me. Several links for QE packages were provided, and for what it's worth the pricing is competitive. But here's the rub, none of the QE packages are fully approved in LA.

Look, I get that institute defenders will just say there's nothing the institute can do to satisfy me or any other critics. But what institute members who care about the org should do is insist national step up its game, which is what I have been doing. Anyone who thinks it's no big deal that the institute doesn't have a full approved QE package and that anyone who points it out hates the institute, IMO is part of the problem and why the institute has flat out lost the battle for education. But I'm only a "less than" residential candidate/member who has to post to social media to get answers.

AI Lobbies Lawmakers on Modernizing Appraisal Licensing System

More than 120 Appraisal Institute Professionals went to Capitol Hill May 18 to urge congressional support for regulatory relief and appraisal modernization.

Attendees of AI’s annual Leadership Development and Advisory Council conference, held May 17-19 in Washington, talked to lawmakers about HR 2771, the Portal for Appraisal Licensing Act, legislation that would help reduce costs and red tape for appraisers and those who use appraisal services by modernizing the real estate appraisal licensing system.

AI Professionals asked members of the House of Representatives to co-sponsor the legislation, and sought original co-sponsors in the Senate, where there currently is no companion bill.

I ordered a 3 year subscription to the Appraisal Journal in Sept and I still haven’t gotten an issue, despite reaching out. I just think they don’t have it together. They need a DOGEing too.

Kinda' like cities that can't fix potholes while their mayors travel around the country to conventions.

AI likes the licensing standards lowered

Makes the designations more valuable

How do the members of AI feel about the giant hole they are in with parea?

It’s very telling that a subject such as parea, which probably has a less than 20% approval rating with members still gets passed by leadership.
