I've had a problem with ACI's spell check crashing the program when I use it in "addendum writer" mode. Tech service told me a couple years ago that I had too many words in my dictionary. I figured it counts as a bug if the dictionary couldn't handle more than a few dozen words, but i tried their work around to no avail. Usually it would crash, I would recover it and jut go on with no problem till the next time, days later.
Today it seems to crash every time I try to go back and use the spell check. As usual, I have to sit and wait till ACI tech services calls me back (Just what do they do with that $300 per license?, Not hire more help, for sure)

Disgusted

I have had the same problem. Only in the addendum writer and nowhere else. So I really doubt that there are too many words in the dictionary, because when I am on the form and I hit spell check it will never crash. I called them and asked them same thing and they gave me the same answer as they did you. Seems they don't know how to fix it, so they ignore it. If anyone can help, please let us know.

:new_smile-l: No problems with Alamode!

I have had an occassional crash while spell checking too. I think I have figured out it only happens when I haven't saved the report before starting the spell checker. Try saving the report and then running the spell checker. It might help.

Got to agree with Liberated. I had a client that insisted on using ACI and they provided it. My software of choice is Alamode. When I had a worm infest my machine in June I decided it was time to fire that client. ACI was just too "unfriendly" when compared to Alamode.

ACI's tech support is rather unhelpful enough times to be more of a pain than a pleasure. There have been situations I've encountered before where I did not know how to fix it and called ACI only to be basically brushed off and later found the resolution myself!

If it is a recreatable problem, I can try to set it up here and then see if I can come up with anything. Let me know how to recreate it.

I know of only a few times when they've really bailed me out of a situation.

Love my icecream - and on the rare occassion I need to call tech support (usually something I did) they are right there, 24/7.

ACI's tech support is not available after 5:00 so what good are they? And when you do reach them you get the run-around.

OP said it right - nightmare. Sweet dreams with alamode.

I too have found their tech support people quite arrogant.

That does it lets all switch, oh wait we still need to deliver reports through Lighthouse.

Did you open up a shared computing session with them where they control your mouse, and have them recreate the problem. My spell check crashed about once in 100 times before the update to software version 8 but not since. How fast is your computer? A slower single-core may not multi task as well as todays dual-core chips.

OSU - RAM helps the efficiency a great deal. My guess would be that your computer has a lot of RAM if it runs faster than some do.

A little RAM adds a lot. :) However, we have had very old computers here running ACI on 64-128MB of RAM and old, single-core processors that still didn't have the problem of crashing with spell check. So that doesn't sound like the problem. If anything, spell check would just run extremely sloooooooow.

On the Alamode vs. ACI discussion - it sounds like Alamode is hands down better but unfortunately a complete overhaul is not plausible for everyone. It'd be quite expensive to replace all of our ACI licenses with Alamode ones, not to mention the learning curve for all the appraisers and myself.

But I bet that Alamode's licensing is a lot simpler! ("Grr" at ACI!)
