I've always contended that one of the value adds available to AMC's is that of technology distribution. Because of their size (some of them) they had/have economies of scale WRT technology - and those economies were, for the most part, made available to appraisers (upload technology, interface technology, analysis tools, etc.). Due to the recent change in structure, though, wherein the AMC's built out internal panels, that technology - it seems - is being reserved for the staff folks and the 'indie' guys (as you like to call them) are left out in the cold. I don't disagree - it will be relatively more challenging for the indie guys to compete, but I've no doubt a Synapse or DataMaster will try to bridge the gap.
