All Solar, Et Al, In 12 Years?

its interesting to see the Trump Phenomena. His message has tapped into the disenchantment of many voters. He speaks of making our country great again(inspirational)

The democrats message has been consistent. Vote for me and I will give money to everyone by taking from the rich(pandering).

the republicans message has also been consistent. Cut taxes, reduce spending, blah blah

Since I am a young 66 year old. I have heard this story from the democrats and republicans for 40 years. Nothing has changed. Nothing will change except the **** of power back and forth between the parties.

If you listen to old clips of Reagan His message was inspirational.

The current climate change threat message is not one of Inspiration it is of one of Threat(fear). Oh ya they throw in the Energy Independence, but that is secondary to the primary reason of Save the Planet or we all die. Its difficult to believe Obama. His track record of current real time threats is poor at best.

Credibility is important. The current administration is looking long term and that's good, but it is a singular issue and doubtful issue. My problem is the day to day problems are handled poorly. Especially since historically both parties have done a poor job of the here and now, I see no change in the near future. Except down hill.

Ten years ago, about $43,000 could cover your home's rooftop in solar panels. Today the average gross cost is about $29,000 — and the efficiency of converting sunlight into electricity has nearly doubled in that time.

This effectively makes the cost of an efficient solar roof lower than the average price of a new car in the US, which is now $33,560, according to Kelley Blue Book.

This number comes from the EnergySage Solar Marketplace Intel Report, which collected data from more than 10,000 installation quotes from about 2,000 consumers.

EnergySage CEO and founder Vikram Aggarwal told Tech Insider that up to 6 million Americans are actively shopping for solar today, and more than 300,000 of them will end up installing solar panels this year. He thinks the US could hit 1 million homes with solar panels by February 2016.

Without the government tax credits and net metering, how many people will opt for solar panels?

New car sales for 2015 is running at 18 million rate compared to a potential of 6 million potential solar panel sales rate in 2016.

My conclusion is that people that rent are more in number than those people who own a home. Renters buy new cars but can't get the government subsidy homeowners get for owning a home. Renters pay taxes where a portion goes to subsidize homeowners. Take away the deductions and credits homeowners get from the government to equalize them with renters.

Homeowners face a simple calculus when deciding whether to install solar panels on their roof: Will the panels pay for themselves with savings on their electric bill?

But buried in that bill are complex variables defined by what’s known as the state’s net metering rules – the very essence of which are under debate at the California Public Utilities Commission in San Francisco.

Those rules must be changed or renewed by the end of the year. As the deadline nears, the clash over whether solar panel users should be forced to pay to support a grid from which they seek to disconnect is getting fiercer. Utilities want to slap fees on solar users, while the solar industry wants them left largely untouched.

“The future of California’s rooftop solar industry is at stake, and it’s at stake because customer choice is at stake,” said Sanjay Ranchod, the vice president of policy and electric markets at SolarCity, the country’s largest solar provider. “If a customer can’t save money by going solar, there’s no value proposition for the customer.”

“Customers remain connected to and benefit from the grid when they install a solar system. That connection to the grid makes it possible for them to export power,” said Caroline Choi, vice president of energy and environmental policy at Southern California Edison. “It is only fair that a customer with rooftop solar pay for at least a part of the grid system that provides them benefits.”

Even the companies that sell rooftop solar admit, there’s no value proposition for the customer if they pay the same rates as people who don't have rooftop solar. Not even the tax credits are enough for solar panels to make sense as an investment without net metering.

A public utility (usually just utility) is an organization that maintains the infrastructure for a public service (often also providing a service using that infrastructure). Public utilities are subject to forms of public control and regulation ranging from local community-based groups to statewide government monopolies.

Public utilities can be privately owned or publicly owned. Publicly owned utilities include cooperative and municipal utilities.

The California Public Utilities Commission (or CPUC) is a public utilities commission that officially regulates the privately owned electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water, railroad, rail transit, and passenger transportation companies that operate in the state of California.

The state or local government has to operate according to law. If the government mandates rates or tariffs that are not profitable, if the government owns the utility, it will be subsidized by the taxpayers. If private investors owns the utility, the investors will be forced to subsidize up to a point; there is no value in operations that lose money, bankruptcy is declared.

Either way, public or private, forcing rates that are not self-sustaining causes dislocations in the community and chaos. That has happened in California. By law, when the 5% cap is reached on rooftop solar, no more anything (tax incentives and net metering). San Diego is expected to hit the cap next year. The solar panel companies are up in arms because their goes their business.
 
Past spikes in carbon dioxide levels accompanied by high ocean circulation

Two abrupt rises in carbon dioxide and Northern Hemispheric warming occurred during the last glacial ice melt, and new evidence confirms that these spikes were accompanied by deep ocean "flushing" events. Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) circulates surface and deep water between the Northern and Southern hemispheres, which plays a critical role in heat transport, which in turn affects climate. To analyze Atlantic circulation over the past 20,000 years, Tianyu Chen et al. collected numerous samples of differently aged deep sea coral, which serve as proxies for carbon storage in the ocean over time, in the Equatorial Atlantic and Drake Passage. The researchers used radiocarbon measurements to trace the isolation of deep ocean waters over the millennia. They found that the dramatic increases of atmospheric carbon dioxide that occurred at the ends of Heinrich Stadial 1 and the Younger Dryas, two major climate events, occurred at the same time that deep ocean radiocarbon inventories decreased, suggesting that carbon dioxide was released into the atmosphere when excess carbon in the deep ocean was being flushed out due to an increase in the AMOC. Furthermore, the authors note a relatively rapid return to modern-like carbon levels after both flushing events, suggesting that the timing of decline in peak AMOC strength occurred within less than 500 years, which is consistent with AMOC predictions from modeling studies. These insights into the relationship between rising carbon dioxide levels and ocean circulation in the past could provide valuable clues about what to expect during modern climate change.

The Younger Dryas (YD) interval (stadial), also referred to as the Big Freeze, was an abrupt return to glacial-like conditions during the transition to a warmer, interglacial climate that occurred at the end of the Late Glacial interval. From detailed radiocarbon dating of plant macrofossils from European Late Glacial lake sediments, it has been estimated that onset of Younger Dryas occurred about 10,800–10,600 radiocarbon years BP and it ended about 10,000–10,050 radiocarbon years BP. These estimated radiocarbon dates are approximate because its onset occurs during a period of time when radiocarbon ages rapidly and irregularly decline and its end occurs at the start of a 200-year-long plateau in radiocarbon dates. In addition the start of the Younger Dryas is not unequivocal as the sudden entry into Younger Dryas conditions is preceded by a gradual period of climate deterioration of a century or so.

New data indicates increasing CO2 levels decrease Earth's magnetic field - or is it the other way round?

A correlation exists between CO2 levels and any other variable which has increased or decreased since 1980.

Vares and Persinger cite a 2008 paper that found that magnetism affects the solubility of CO2 in water. With a weaker field, CO2 would become less soluble in the oceans and some would be released into atmosphere.

Vares and Persinger go on to say that although CO2 is rising, this in itself “does not cause global warming”. Instead, they say that the change in energy associated with the Earth’s changing magnetic field “translates into an equivalent temperature” and this may relate to climate change.

Well now, correlation is just as good as causation. At least there is a correlation to CO2 levels and the magnetic field strength. :)
 
oh man,

Now we have to make more electricity to electrify the planet's magnetic field to make it stronger.

Everybody buy more solar panels so we can make more electricity.
