Allegations of Appraiser racism

Mostly townhomes and condos over there west of 101. Not a lot of detached home sales there.

Unless the person appraising the home the second time was the SAME appraiser that did it the first time, the more likely explanation for the value discrepancy - expecially in an insanely high-value area such as Sausalito with its myriad hills, views, etc, etc - is that one of the appraisers was unfamiliar with the market area and not competent to appraise there. And the "story" does nothing to shed any light on that nugget. Too tempting to go for the "race card" when the alternate, far more reasonable explanation, is too mundane for the papers.

AND was most likely hired by a garbage AMC.
I am three counties over, and have never appraised in the Bay Area. Yet I cannot tell you how many potential orders we get every single day from a variety of AMCs who completely ignore that we do NOT cover Oakland, SF, Marin counties (for example - I won't even talk about Stockton - we get those too).

Just today my wife lost it (for her that's pretty polite unlike me) and emailed back USRES to stop wasting our time sending us orders in SF when they know we don't cover that county - all they have to do is check our profile.

The AMC business model is ruining the appraisal profession. OK with me, I do mostly private work and some work that requires a CG license. My trainee will not have to rely on lending work as I am not sure that is the future.

California Realtor Loses Job After Racist Video Harassing Asian Woman Goes Viral

hey, Jessica, any comments?

:rof: :rof: :rof:

Prices in the Bay Area are increasing at an insane rate. My niece witnessed this first hand trying to buy her first home. Increased at a rate of 10%+ per month in certain parts of Oakland. Maybe both appraisals are right?

AGAIN with this tired retread? WHY?? It's been discussed in multiple threads for months

Most of these posts add zero to what has already been discussed and given the history of some who start threads on it, I doubt they have a genuine intention of exploring the subject
This is actually not a retread. It just came out the other day. There are now 4-5 different casss in which this supposedly happened. Fl, Colorado, Detroit, NJ and now CA.

I Actually spoke to someone the other day in Jacksonville and they told me that HUD had been actively trying to hire an appraiser to go out and appraise the Abena Horton home (the lady that started this all) and it appears they are doing so to get through their investigation of the original claim. As far as I know so far no one has taken the order and wants nothing to do with it. I’m sure there will be someone though.

this is just going to continue and more stories like these will keep coming out. I have decided that I will be asking for identification at every home to make sure the borrower is who they say they are or the realtor. If they try to replace themselves with another person then I’ll walk away until the real owners are present. Not into these games.

Abena Horton the CoreLogic lawyer. Yeah, no bias with her perception there.
