Isn't it about time that forumnites united and tried something like this---

Let's try to open up a direct line of communication to TAF or at least the ASB or whatever appropriate appraiser regulatory agency to discuss appraisal issues from the perspective of those in the trenches.

A special thread could be opened moderated by the best of the best to filter through the diatribes and develop a short list of issues to be forwarded directly to the appropriate agency for their response.

WHO would you volunteer for this task? As you know, many issues are contraversial even among us "experts."

Are you expecting this to be a two way communication? I can guarantee it won't be. Any response you receive from TAF will be caveated or sufficiently vague to avoid definitive answers. I seriously doubt TAF would respond in any un-official capacity. Any answer received from TAF on a non-official public forum would be un-official hence, there wouldn't be any communications from TAF. And a national organization such as TAF conveniently lacks the resources to respond officially to every non-official public communication.

I could be wrong. Probably am. Then again you're talking about discussions that could be used to pin TAF and from what I've seen of the public spotlight, that isn't going to happen.

.....there wouldn't be any communications from TAF.....

(Not to pick on anyone but....) You don't think TAF would respond to suggestions and possible solutions from the likes of Webbed Feet, Joker, Smokey Bear, Artemis Fowl, TC, Mr. Rex or other folks here?

I realize how selfish this will sound-but certainly not a lowly trainee like me. But I will help with the grunt work if need be.

What better way to try to get TAF more in the game than to utilize the knowledge of the forumnites to identify a need for a change, concise clarification or interpretation on a single issue at a time. Let's try to make them responsive to our needs in the trenches and see what happens!! Yes perhaps this is but one other of many other attempts at herding cats but there has got to be at least one issue that we can obtain some sort of majority opinion on!!!!
How about folks start by posting what they think the most important issue(s) are and let the moderator pick one for us to focus on and see if they will listen ro merely give us a standard bullshat bureaucratic lip service response. Let's step up to the plate instead of spending all this time we now have arguing about the finer points of appraising and b*tching at each other

Now that's funny!!!

Cwd--I fear that you are correct but I for one would feel much better tilting at the TAF windmill than spending endless amounts of time here whining and b*tching at each other-gettin kind of tired of that as well as arguing about the finer points of appraising that have no possible real answer except from TAF itself. Let's at least spend our time and efforts even if wasted directed at the horse's mouth!

I believe the ASB would probably be the most receptive to your ideas, however, I feel there are enough established open forums and blogs out there including this forum, to say that they are not informed is delusional. I've noticed that most government agencies (Freedie/Fannie) and certain attorney generals, as well as state senators and alike that are pounding appraisers with new policies and legislation are not responding at all, just pushing their own agendas without regard to our issues. I think we've used up whatever voice we have and now we must wait for the thunder which should be coming soon.

Sandy,

Anyone who wants to communicate with TAF has a direct line available already. In the six years I served on the ASB we got many comment letters from Forum participants. Some could be counted on to comment on any issue that was exposed. I will not name individuals, but several who participate here have had greate influence on the development of standards and qualifications.

Despite popular belief to the contrary, the name and/or logo on the top of the letter has no bearing on how it is treated. It is the quality of the positions stated in the letter that determine how it is received. A well written letter submitted by an individual is far better that a poorly written letter by a large organization. I know of several USPAP changes that were the result of letters sent by individual appraisers.

When people send questions to the ASB they get answers. They do not always get them as quickly as they want, and often they do not get the answer they want - but they do get answers.

As for the "perspective of those in the trenches," most who serve on TAF boards are working appraisers who are in the same trenches we are.

Regards

DW

I agree with Danny on this one, most folks donot use the avenues that are already there. What amazes me is the low number of apprasisers who attend the ASB, AQB or other meeting, that is the place to be heard and hear others...
