Which state governments do not charge income tax?
The Congress has the power to levy income taxes as per the 16th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution ratified in 1913. Many states have income taxes.
Eight U.S. states charge no income tax on individuals' reported wages, namely Alaska, Texas, Florida, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Nevada, and Wyoming. Alaska, in particular, repealed taxes in 1980 after state coffers were brimming with billions of dollars in oil money.
