Another reason not to live in Texas

'Killer bees' keep spreading (and killing) across the US

"In Texas, every year there's at least four big (Africanized bee) attacks that make the news," said Juliana Rangel, a professor of apiculture (beekeeping) at Texas A&M University, where they're widespread in the wild.

Today, people in the South and the Southwest are learning to live with them, but the danger remains, especially when the highly defensive bees first appear in an area or when people accidentally run into a colony.

Africanized honey bees don't survive in areas with cold winters and don't like high levels of rain, making for natural cutoffs in areas where temperatures fall, Rangel said.

What states have Africanized honeybees?

At least 13 states have reported Africanized honeybees. In the south, southern Florida has the highest numbers.

"From Tampa to Orlando to Daytona, south of that, a large percentage of the feral bee population are of African decent. North of that, we don’t have much," Ellis said.

Africanized bees have also been reported in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi, though they don't seem to thrive in those wetter environments as much.

The bees have found a natural home in the Southwest, in part, because the landscape is much like the arid and semi-arid parts of Africa they're originally from. Feral colonies are common in southern California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and especially Texas.

I read somewhere that "killer bees" don't take kindly to Californians in Texas.

What does it matter what Fernando’s opinion is of Texas? Fernando is a fing moron with too much time on his hands.

Twitter started in SF. Companies in Silicon Valley are innovators and change the world including Apple, Google, Meta, and Tesla.
And Microsoft and Amazon still have to open offices here in order to be relevant.

I hear east of Rockies, there are tornadoes, flood, and heat wave.
Another reason to be in CA.

Texas Abruptly Loses 3 Major Factories as Economic Slump Deepens

One big sign of trouble? Texas’s service sector is shrinking.

According to one report, the revenue index fell to -4.7 in May – that’s a clear sign of decline.

And it gets worse: hiring has stalled, and people are working fewer hours across the board.

And it’s not just services. Retail in Texas is also struggling in a big way.

The Texas Retail Outlook Survey shows that sales fell off a cliff in May – plunging to -30.5. That’s the lowest reading since the height of the pandemic lockdowns in April 2020. Yikes.

Business owners aren’t just seeing weaker numbers. They’re losing confidence fast.

The general business activity index fell deeper into the red, hitting -23.7, and even company-specific outlooks stayed stubbornly negative.

People are nervous. And rightfully so.

Even jobs in restaurants, hotels, and warehouses aren’t looking much better.

The employment index for service sector jobs is still negative, and the number of hours worked dipped again in May.

Texas built its reputation as a pro-business powerhouse with affordable land, fewer regulations, and fast-growing cities.

But now, some of the very companies that once flocked to Texas are starting to pack up and leave…

Dude, why are you so obsessed with Texas? Jealousy is an unbecoming character trait my friend.
