the house I'm doing is a traditional home built in the 1970s. it has stairs from the living room up to the attic. 2/3 of the attic is finished with high ceilings and a full bathroom, the other 1/3 of the attic is unfinished and used as a storage area and there is a drywall dividing wall and a doorway separating the two attic spaces. the ceiling in the attic is sloping from about 8' down to 4-5' all along both sides of the attic.

My question is do ANSI measuring standards apply to attics?

In a word, yes. Just search the forum for the subject. It has been discussed ad nauseum in various threads

Was it done with permits? What data do you have from public records?
Thats first questions I have. Not what ANSI says.

You can't include living area if not permitted.
It's called finished storage space.
