Any Oklahoma Appraisers here?

Mr Dunkle, I applied to upgrade to CR. I've been appraising for 7 years now, no complaints, no disiplanary actions. I've had a CG friend review most of my work. Can't imagaine what they found wrong. I am also not AQB compliant because they say I need to send in my experience logg and take the test again. They have my experience logg that I sent in Sept. I can not find anything in the rules that says I need to take the test (same test I took back in 2000) just to stay at the liciense level and be compliant. This has become a real headache.

I've been appraising for 32 years (30 when I upgraded to CGA) and the reviewer disagreed with me on a few things. Not enough to refuse my application, but we had differences of opinions. I'm not saying you don't do good work, but you will have to wait for the letter in January to know why they refused your application.

As far as complaints, I have had lots of them..from borrowers, HO's, etc. ...none filed.

After the holidays, call the office and talk to them about your AQB compliance. SLA should only require 2000 hours of experience to be AQB compliant because you have already taken the test!

Just rec'd my license after having spent lots of time and treasure the make sure that I knew what the reviewers were looking for. Although it makes sense that there is more than one way to skin the proverbial cat, the truth of the matter is that you need to find someone who is connected to the intracacies of the OREAB to find out what it is that they are looking for in terms of review.

The first reports that I submitted I thought were bulletproof. They were not and after spending some time with someone who is truly interested in the profession, I realized that the work I was doing was average at best and truthfully subpar. I have really tried to upgrade my knowledge of the correct way to do appraisals and have checked my ego at the door(which was difficult). If you want to contact me, I will be happy to send you a sample of what I have done and it may give you an idea of what they are looking for.

FYI, my first review took 3 months and my second one(after spending time with a pro) took 2 DAYS!

I can put you in touch with some top notch people in OKC if that would help you out.

Thanks for all the input. I looked at the ASC website and they have a grid showing every state's requirements. For Oklahoma it clearly shows that if one recieved a Liciense before 07/01/2001, there is NO requirement for any experience. (although I now have way more than whats required) I took the test and got my liciense in 01/31/2001. I printed the page that shows this and will take it to them. I shoud'nt need to do anything to be compliant and remain SLA. Hope you all had a Merry Christmas, I'll let you know what happens.

Robert,

AQB compliance has nothing to do with the state's requirements. AQB compliance requires state license and 2,000 hours experience. There was a time when I was not considered AQB compliant even though I had many thousands of hours of experience......just not after having become licensed.

True, the state does not require any experience to be SLA IF you were licensed before July 1, 2001. I work with a person who is SLA and has never completed an appraisal. All you have to do (to my best knowledge) is keep up your CE and pay the renewal each year. If you do not want to upgrade, you can stay at the same level with no additional experience or upgrade education, but AQB compliance requires 2,000 hours of verified experience.

I guess I'll wait till I get the explanation in the mail. Funny thing though, I hold a FAA airframe and powerplant liciense that allows me to perform mechanical repairs and do 100 hour inspections on aircraft. The license is valid for life, and there is no continuing ed or experience hours required. When an aircraft crashes, people die.

Hi Everyone, does anyone understand the new rule changes they are making to Title 600?

Jobs in OK

Aloha my Oklahoma friends! I am currently located out in Hawaii and just obtained my CR Certificate here. I am moving back to my home state, Oklahoma, in February. I am trying to see if you guys know of any good commercial appraisers that might need apprentices in the OKC area or even Tulsa? I have spent the last 8 years in the military and got my CR on the side before I got out. I am getting worried now that I am not going to be employed soon after coming back to OK. Please help!

Aaron,

This is, probably, not the best of times to be looking for a position in appraising in Oklahoma!!! We have, counting trainees, about 60% more appraisers than we had 10 years ago and, thanks to AVMs, etc., we have fewer assignments than 10 years ago. I am not in the OKC market but, in Tulsa, I don't know of anyone who would be hiring. Some of the larger firms that are headed by MAIs could be looking for a trainee, you would just have to contact each and every one. Good Luck!!
