Anyone Going To Valuation Expo ** Las Vegas In August ?

For those who support the AMC Expo, here's a quote from one of the sponsors:

"There truly is a need for new hashtag#Appraisers willing to learn UAD 3.6, embrace hashtag#technology, work with alternative products not against, and bring a fresh new perspective to the profession, leaving the “well that’s just the way I have always done it” Appraisers behind."

That's what they think of independent residential appraisers. Good luck.

There are places I prefer not to be - Chicago, San Fran, LA, NYC, Washington DC, and, of course, Vegas. I'd rather while away my time in Lincoln, NM; Clark, CO; New Ulm, Tx; or, even Hamblin, WV. Actually, an afternoon trout fishing in the Ruidoso city park or the same in Hahn's Peak Lake... now that would be fun.
I recently had to make a trip to Sunflower County, Mississippi to appraise a farm. At West Memphis I went west on I-40 to Highway 79, then south to Helena, Arkansas where I crossed the river into Mississippi. I took this route to avoid driving through Memphis. I would drive a hundred miles out of my way if necessary to avoid Memphis. I lived there years back in the 60’s and early 70’s. Would not go there now if someone paid me. I’m told that the police are recommended to leave your vehicle unlocked after removing any valuables. Do this to prevent windows being knocked out by thieves.

There are areas in Nashville just as bad. You have to be careful where you park and especially after the sun goes down.

I don't appraise in some areas after lunch.

We just had a group of people got in a fight in Arlington, TN at waffle house which is considered very safe suburb. Witnesses said two groups got into it and one ran to car and grabbed gun and starting shooting.

I haven't heard of any injuries.

Much of my family live in Union City TN, which is small rural town. They just had some killings there. It is everywhere.

I know a shelby county sheriff detective well. He carries all the time. He is pretty good with guns.

I haven't talked to him today. He lives in Arlington and works downtown Memphis. That waffle house is not too far from him. .
