recently inherited a very vintage (and most likely expensive) guitar from my father and i'm looking to get it appraised for insurance purposes. i've tried all the local places and no one was any help, least of all the morons at guitar center.

can anyone suggest a quality place to perform an appraisal?

thanks.

My condolences to your father.

You say local, but not sure what part of Ohio.

Antiques Roadshow will be in Louisville, KY next month. If that doesn't work for you, you can always contact one of their touring appraisers specializing in musical instruments or they may be able to put in touch with the right person in your area.

*Keep in mind that it you contact them beforehand it may disqualify you from being on the show.

Search for the American Society of Appraisers website and inquire of them. Quite often with good information from you about the instrument and accompanied with a quantity of good photographs of it, an appraiser (though distant from you) can likely assist.

Try Reverb.com...see if anything similar is up...they deal in vintage stuff all the time. Alternately contact them and ask who to ask. I have a '74 Guild SG that I priced off there.

LOL Guitar Center...yup.

Curious what is it?
Late 50's Gibsons go for sick $$$ if the right ones. Old Martin accoustics too.
Just checked site...'60 Les Paul $550,000...Martin D-45 $110,000 !!:coolsmiley:

I may know some people if you are struggling to get a credible value or think it might be really valuable. Get multiple opinions, especially if they are accompanied by an offer...lot of scammers out there for old guitars.

If it's an old Gibson I may even be able to contact you with one of its makers. Not many left from the early era tho.

My luthier (works on stringed instruments) is world famous. Works out of his home and I have seen guitars owned by Elvis, Hendrix and other big names on his table. Amazing fellow and he will know who/what/where to solve your issue.

https://reverb.com/price-guide/guide/796-gibson-les-paul-special-1957-tv-yellow

This source says $6500-$9000

Price guides are tough to find online, as they want you to buy the book!!!

Local stores should have the book, don't know why Guitar Center didn't, they usually do. Try another store. Too bad its not a gold top. Not enough info on the amp, but those are often worth money too.

LOL. Ill give you $1000 for both right now, plus a case of beer, and you have to listen to me play smoke on the water for you, while we drink the beer together.

Reverb.com is an excellent resource. Read/post on the blogs. Same as here, you will get a bunch of grief from the resident smartasses but someone will eventually give you some real help. Guitar Center is a worthless craphole.

I know a few other tunes too. FC stands for Farm Cat, Farm Cat Records is my record label, that produced exactly one copy of one record that sold exactly zero copies - lol. Name of the record was Folk You.
