Rels has or had a position where you get a draw of approximately $2,000 per month less taxes, + benefits+ cell phone allowance. They will supply a computer, and software. For this you must complete appraisals @ $155, until you make up your draw, then the $155 per job is yours. With this position you may work for outside clients. The above rates were for my neck of the woods last year, and I declined the position. Of course at this time, I do not think they are hiring.

Faster and faster, the mortgage lending appraising world is declining into the abyss. THEY DO NOT WANT THE TRUTH.

IMO, if you are a residential appraiser with intelligence, competency, and honesty, you will either get OUT of anything having to do with mortgage lending to do those rare assignments most often wanted by attornies, or just get out of appraising totally.

And abandon the honest and ethical battle?

So I got the actual job description...

This actually came from my former sponsor. I think she was passing this my way because she is trying to help me get some work.. I just personally can't decide if this would be right for me or not...

Rels Valuation, the nation's leading appraisal managment company is currently looking for career minded individuals to fill open positions for residential staff appraisers. Applicants are required to be licensed or certified. Rels Valuations is the primary appraisal provider for Wells Fargo.

As an employee of Rels, you will receive a comprehensive benefit program including health coverage, a 401k, appraisal software, computer equipment, data services, technical and legal support.

If I were to accept this position, would I be signing my soul over to RELS????

The only reason this sounds appealing is that I haven't had much luck getting too much work lately... but also I am in the position where I want to work for myself and not for someone else!

Thanks in advance for the advice,

:new_color_: Dani

You say that you would like to work for yourself and be independent. In this market most appraisers are lucky to work enough to support themselves. I would say you have to go where the work is for the time being to get experience and you can get help from other staff appraisers. I worked for BofA and made as much money as I was able to handle the hours. It is very hard work and very demanding. If you're not able to deliver they will cut you loose. Be prepared to give everything but it can pay off in the experience for the long run when it's more economically feasible to go out on your own. Here in the Los Angeles area appraisers are a "dime a dozen." I left the staff appraisal position to pursue another field but the job did pay off in many ways.

Try becoming a WIC! That's a World Independant Contractor. They are a portfolio lender and are sticklers for the truth. You can do other assignments and you work at home. They are wonderful to work for. If they are busy in your area then you will get plenty of work. They are by far the best outfit I've worked for. They are slow here in the bay area but are busy in parts of the country that they are breaking into. good luck! I gave up appraising but They were paying $375 per 1004 w/o the cost approach as of 3 month's ago when I did my last order from them. and they pay quickly.

Mark.... What exactly is a WIC????? The only WIC I have heard of is the WIC food... you know the welfare program for Women, Infants and Children? And if the appraisal business doesn't start picking up, maybe I'll have to resort to that WIC!!! :icon_lol:

Where could I go to find out more information about this??? I am in the largest city in Texas, so there is bound to be some work here somewhere! I've just got to find it!

Thanks in advance,
