Appraisal Software

Richard,

SFREP now has a vastly improved file index. They also have an appraisal management program called Track-It that I use that allows all types of searches, including by subdivision.

You should give it a try again.

I may just do that kevan. I never did get the add on programs like trac it and photograph it. I think there is a map it also. seemed like a lot of different programs. can't cost more than alamode though. I might check out wilson.

I am thinking about switching out of ala mode also. Their fees are too high. In times like this when the appraiser is being asked/forced to lower our fees to stay in business and the software companies are wating more money, I may have to change. I have platinum service and the call lines are horribly long and I feel that I get very poor service when I can make it through. I have not downloaded my software yet and I may never will. :(

I have also contacted Wilsons. :yellowblack:

SFREP and WCA are almost exactly the same thing ... one company owns the programming, and the other owns the databases (or something like that  ) .. I have used both, and I have both .. as well as a full update on Homeputer ... I just prefer the WCA .. I guess primarily due to their attitude, customer service and it just seems like they absolutely WANT my business ... not just my money ...

As for Dragon ... with a little training ... it is faster than typing... but the big thing is being able to record thoughts, notes, or even begin your report by talking into a small, digital, recorder on the trip home and then being able to just plug it in to your computer, start it playing, and have Dragon type everything out for you while you are making supper or playing with the kids .... I am using 7.0 Preferred and am digging it more, by the day ... I think some others here are using 8.0 and I may upgrade someday, but for now, this thing is kicking and I hate to potentially screw up what I have going on .... let's face it ... training a computer to understand SOUTHERN is a feat in and of, itself ... :D

Thanks for your input. Maybe I will download wilson and try the demo. I have to say homeputer is very tempting. the one big drawback is no comp data base. That is what saves me time, having all of the sales in one place. Otherwise I would have to look up old reports MLS etc. The SFREP comp data base worked well. I like it better than wintotal. I don't like having to put in a sale price and date on a refinance to search for comps. The date makes no sense since it searches before and after the date. I guess it looks for future comps.

Homeputer works ... but that is about where it stops ... you will literally BUILD a report ... and it drove me nuts having to bounce back and forth trying to keep the addendum straight ... If you already have a database of some sort, you can try importing your old one to the new one ... I know my SFREP files went right in, and all I had to do was a quick "rebuild" command on the database and pictures, addresses and everything else went right in ... and each report I do adds to that database with the same information ... I know that I am no one, but I am impressed with them .... much more so than they are with me ;)

Day One/Nova has a great data base system. Since my area is not really computerized I have used the Day One data base to track every sale or offering for sale whether MLS or FSBO since 1996 in my area. I have just the basic program without any bells and whistles. Mapping programs don't have the streets, can't locate the correct location for addresses, etc, etc--so I just scan the maps from the phone book and use stick on arrows--works for me. Use Quicken and a hand written log for tracking everything. Between the three I can find any sold, offering for sale or report in just seconds.

I would suggest Clickforms. It is very easy to work with, doesn't crash, and you can email them questions, comments, suggestions, etc., right from within the program.
I would not suggest Nova Forms Day One. Our appraisal company was forced to purchase and use the Day One software program in order to do business with one of our long-term clients. It is unpredictable, it crashes on an almost daily basis, and it is NOT user friendly.

After dealing with Day One and their uploading process through Appraisal. com, our entire office appreciates Clickforms so much more.

I talked to a buddy appraiser today and he's thinking of getting out of Alamode.

He liked Athena much better that Aurora.

Alamode paid all those programmers to come up with a new product, but customers will drop them.

If it ain't broke ........break it !!!!!
