I am in the final stages of getting my license in Missouri. I sent in my final files to be approved for certification. The state is having me come to the hearing and answer questions about my work. The lady on the phone said it is common, and that if I was going to be denined they would have already done it. My question is, is this bad? What will they do at the meeting? Should I be worried?

No. go and answer their questions. If you don't know, say you don't know

If they have veto power over you, accept that. Never let them see you sweat. If they deny your application, then read their rules very carefully and see if they have the right to prevent you from setting for the test.

BTW, from experience of others, the Missouri board takes their time...very very slowly...they are not very timely and the ASC ought to investigate their licensing turnaround times.

I don't know. Listen to those who do know. At first glance, it seems like it is nothing but a waste of time if the decision to accept you has already been made and if your acceptance is not contingent on your attendance and favorable "appearance." Maybe they just want to welcome you; perhaps they are taking a survey. :rof:

On the other hand, perhaps they just want to put the fear of God in you from the beginning. Now that I have thought it out it sounds like a good idea to me.

Don't mean to sound insensititive to this appraiser's situation but if the ASC has time on their hands they need to spend it cracking down on states for failing for enforce USPAP. To hell with how fast they approve appraiser applications. My state needs the ASC to shove their boot up the backside of FREAB and the DBPR.

I went to the meeting and heard back a few days ago that I will be receiving my Certification. I was really sweating the meeting, but it actually went pretty well. I answered their questions as best I could and they gave some good advice and suggestions. All in all I think this will make me a better appraiser just to see their side of things.

Congradulations!!!

With a positive attitude like that, you will go far and your clients will be better served.

I wish my state did personal interviews.

Congratulations to you! I think it would be a good thing if more state boards interviewed applicants.
