Because NON-farmers pay that if they don't. They compete for the ground. And only way to justify it is to hope once done farming, inflation will provide some small return in reversion. Farm equipment and cattle are wasting assets that are worth little at the end of their lives. When I started appraising we had a number of dairy farms to do. Averaging maybe 4 - 5 per year. I've done 1 twice in this century and one other about 3 years ago.how/why does he pay $5,000 an acre to buy it?
