As soon as I read his post, I knew it was a matter of one or two posts before someone went to town on him... hang in their Daniel. Reviewing appraisals can be very time consuming work. At the same time, the narrative required in a review in picking apart an appraisal that lacks (how can we say this), adequate judgement, is another monster in itself. Mastering adequate writing skills would be my first concern for you based on your post. The bank needs to trust your judgement. If they can't decipher your narrative, it could be a short lived position. However, if your writing skills are more sound than the post above and you just had one too many when you were typing, in this economy, it sounds like it would be a good job to keep afloat! Good luck either way.

A regular paycheck until this screwy economy straightens out would be a good thing. If I saw a good bank review/chief appraiser position in my area, I'd strongly consider it.

A competent review appraiser is no threat to anyone and should be viewed as an asset to our profession, not an adversary. A skilled reviewer, not an AVM or underwriter's whim, is often the best friend of appraisers who tackle difficult assignments which don't fit into the form-filling mold.

The ability to write clearly, a thorough understanding of valuation methodology and a strong knowledge of USPAP are minimal necessary skills to competently perform review appraisals. Although the need for these skills appears to be obvious, I have hired more than a few cert res appraisers who lack at least one if not two or three of these skills.
