Props to the Texas Top Cop Shop.
A Conroe retailer has the latest in tactical, law enforcement and emergency services apparel and gear - but the store won’t sell to just anybody.
Texas Top Cop Shop, located at 1109 W. Dallas, offers a nice selection of tactical and bad weather gear for consumers, but official items with law enforcement or emergency service designations, police and sheriff patches and specialty equipment like handcuffs are available only to certified professionals who work in the industry. It’s not necessarily a legal restriction,” said owner Steve Schneider, “but it’s our policy. We cater to law enforcement and emergency services personnel.”
Schneider, a native Texan with a career security background in Harris County, opened the shop recently to better serve the men and women of Montgomery County who work in the public sector. While Schneider does not supply uniforms for local police, sheriff’s office or EMS personnel, he hopes to add that function in the near future.
“Uniforms are usually provided on a contract basis,” he said. “That’s something we are working on and hope to be able to offer - having a retail shop in the area is more convenient.”
The Top Cop Shop is also a certified Smith & Wesson dealer. Schneider has some accessories at present, but said he will be expanding his stock to include firearms and other law enforcement equipment - but most will be restricted to certified professionals.
“For the public, we do have a nice selection of tactical clothing, rain gear, boots and accessories,” said Schneider. “The quality is a lot higher than similar items sold at general retailers.”
Accessories include Streamlite flashlights, solid and camo-style tactical clothing and military-style boots. One of the more popular items available to the public at Texas Top Cop Shop is the line of Rite in the Rain products - specialty pens, pads and paper that can be used in extreme weather conditions. “If you need to write something in the rain - and have it legible when you’re done - this is what you need,” said Schneider.
While the recently opened business is still expanding its stock, Schneider said he is committed to being a primary resource for the law enforcement and emergency services community. He is open on Saturdays to better serve those who work during the week and have a hard time getting to a retail store.
