Get real about tools.

Harve BeanKodak does the job!

But not as good as a Nikon...

Come on, do you really use a Nikon for residential form work?

I use a "Last years model" Cannon Power Shot. I got it at Staples. It not only works fine, it was hundreds less than a Nikon.

As for laser measuring devices, having the accuracy to the 1/32" is overkill.

How to access the Yahoo Mobile Appraiser Group

OOoops, I accidentally double posted.

Sorry, :( and

I use a Nikon, but it was only $199. :D Didn't know they were so special, I feel special now because I use a Nikon. Truth be told I would rather have the Kodak Wide Angle over this POS Nikon.

[Edit] Oops... I just saw that the correct link was already posted. My mistake for not checking first.

The owner and moderators of this group are all practicing appraisers and there are just under 2,000 members so you'll get input from a wide cross section. Please note that the MobileAppraiserGroup is but one extra source of information and I recommend continuing to post here. I also urge you to contribute answers to questions that others might post here and other places. The sharing of information/expertise and helping your peers is what these forums is all about.

Hope this helps!

Randall-

I have not found any information in mobileappraisersgroup or any other online site about the Bosch unit. I did read a lot about the Hilti, which Matt notes as being an excellent unit. I also emailed Matt via mobileappraisergroup last night to no avail. I am awaiting his phone call or email. Thanks for your help as well!

Hi Ric,

I didn't receive your email. Give me a call at your convenience.. 866-966-7011 x 100

I see that Matt has written, but I wanted to respond as well. I don't think you'll find much commentary on the Bosch unit. That brand is very hard to find here in the US, so very few people have them. We see them routinely in Europe, but not here.

Hope this helps!

This may, or may not, be related to the Bosch unit. But they have been having some serious supply issues with some of their products like home appliances. Nearly impossible to get some parts. So if you are finding limited distribution with their laser tools then that's probably a bad sign.

As an owner of both the Disto and FatMax, I much prefer the Disto.

We purchased a FatMax in desperation of needing a second laser tool fast. I now regret it and should have just did a rush order on a Disto.

I have been using a Disto (started with a Lite and added the Plus version later) for almost 5 years.

Maybe it's just habit but I get so frustrated with the FM. Seems that I am always having to make sure the "units of measure" are correct. I am always hitting the buttons and something is changed. I seem to spend more time "resetting" things so I can shoot a measurement than I do actually measuring a property.

Another con I have is the battery. I'm so use to AA batteries lying around and now I have to make sure I have 9V's as well and it seems to use them up quickly.

Another con is the actual laser. I have to use both the tape and the FM if I'm not equipped with the Disto. It seems that the "dot" is larger on the FM but it doesn't seem to help with shooting a distance. I can tell the difference in the strength of the "dot" and it's obvious with all the "255" errors that it is very weak. I have trouble with it below 50' and end up having to shoot several times to make sure I get a correct measurement.

Bottom line is, I am not impressed with the FatMax. This tool is definately for the Homeowner and not for the professional that does measuring day in and day out. It is a "back up" tool but must be used in conjunction with a tape.

GIVE ME A DISTO any day over the FM (maybe I just spoiled myself and over reacting).

I'm currently looking at a third disto purchase but can't decide which one to get. Must have +/- options, viewfinder and buttons that don't get pushed easily when shooting measurements. The bluetooth is not a need (already have one with that and it's barely used). Don't need the pyth function either (rarely used on the other one either). Guess I'll be taking some time soon to look at them again and make the purchase.
