I think appraisers see more thieves and tricksters than the average human. I used to believe people were generally honest, that was before appraising.
I hear you, but am saddened (genuinely) that such is your conclusion.
I see bad actors, but believe, in general, most people are honest or try to do the right thing.
Since we are waxing ancient history, one reason that Cicero is my avatar is because of his writings (on Ethics, Duties, Government, and on just plain everyday life).
In a letter to his son, his advice was effectively this:

While it may seem advantageous and expedient in the short term to do the wrong thing, it is never so.
While it may seem disadvantageous and destructive in the short term to do the right thing, it is never so.
The actions we take, in the belief that they will benefit us but are the wrong actions, are never beneficial.
The actions we take, if they are the right actions, are always beneficial regardless of the immediate consequences.

He was far from perfect and made many mistakes. But his advice to his son is timeless.

I have found a program that blocks ads, cookies, malware, etc. After flushing the cache, and resetting the browser, no problem. Keep flushing the cache periodically.

If the pop-ups are repeatedly coming back, users need to pay attention to what site they're on when it happens and avoid that site.

But some of the ads are so darn funny,

You don't want to miss them.

:D

My favorite read.
The annotated one (John C??? I cannot recall his last name other than it is Italian, naturally) by my bed is so dog-eared it is time for me to buy a new one.

I read it complete about once a year and always find something new (or, rediscover something) each time.
Inferno is the easy read. Epic, in my mind.
Paradisio (even as a Catholic, and not a great, practicing one at that!) is tough for me.
Purgatorio is where I find hope and gravitate to.

Ever do the library purge, and you start cleaning off the shelves of the old stuff you don't want to bother with anymore? And then you can never seem to throw those books out, or find someone willing to take them?

Some where, in a box of I'm not really a hoarder, I have a copy of Edith Hamilton's mythology from the early 70s, that I still can not part with.

The schools I went to had a lot of first gen, and immigrants from Europe. Lots of Italians and Greeks, so, the schools were heavy in teaching Greek and Roman mythology from early in the elementary grades, through high school. They called it a "classical education". I call, it, thank you for teaching me to read.

Thank you, Amy (btw, what is your avatar?).

I, like Marion, don't have an issue with my computer.
But, I was getting re-directed on my cell phone. Usually, it tells me I've won some gift certificate from Wall-mart and starts to ask me some questions.
I try to keep my cell phone updates up-to-date, but a "techie" (as opposed to a "trekie"), I am not.
Yup. Same here.

Don't know who's searching cheap car rentals,

but I'm getting your ads.

They kept getting the ads so wrong, I finally just turned off the customized ads on my google accounts. Now I am getting just awesome lame ads like AARP, alamode and a website co ad.
