California considering doing away with SF zoning

Check out Crossville, Tennessee. Small city with NO ZONING other than regulations on FEMA flood hazard areas. The market has self regulated where residential and commercial development have taken place. Nice little city.
Yes there are many nice smaller cities without heavy zoning codes-but I also doubt they are run by insane politicians who want some weirdo living in a tent in your backyard. Anyway you don't want is Californians ruining your great State because we have proven how bureaucrats can destroy almost anything they touch : ) :)

That's pretty funny when you think about it... The courts are going to be even busier than they are now. I am not trying to inject politics, but in my mind that this is part of the war on Capitalism by the Socialist. There is no doubt that this is a Constitutional Crisis in the making. De facto taking.

Question: Given the Internet Technology we have today. Why does the Financial Industry need to be densely clustered together in the Center of a City?

In the example below the Town of Mcadenville is now a bedroom community for Charlotte.

In the south we used to have a lot of Cotton Mills. The Mill owner was the Big Fish in a relatively small pond. Mcadenville, NC https://townofmcadenville.org/ Nearby were other small ponds with a Big Fish. " Belmont, Mount Holly, Cramerton. These all have changed into Bedroom Communities west of Charlotte. Belmont is the most expensive for SFR.

Our Company
Founded in the first textile mill to have electricity – the result of R.Y. McAden’s visionary partnership with Thomas Edison – Pharr has long prized innovation. Pharr’s ability to anticipate the market’s future needs, embrace bold ideas and respond nimbly has contributed to its growth over the years and driven some of its most successful product offerings, including revolutionary high-performance yarn.

So all around the mill were many small residential homes. Often they were duplex's owned by the Company. If you worked at Pharr Yarns you had a place to live in one of the company owned duplex's. You also had everything you need within that town Specifically a Company owned General Store. You could buy things you needed to live like groceries, etc . The store manager kept a Book on your purchase and it was deducted from your pay. The beauty of this was you did not need a car, horse or anything other than your feet to get to work.

I had a weekend getaway lake place east of Gainesville for years. I was able to get internet, so I had a fully functional office there quite inexpensively. If I didn't have to be in the field in Orlando where I was working, 2 hours south, I could still do everything office related from the lake place without sacrificing quality and quantity. And the clients didn't even have to know.

As I've said before, I'm not categorically opposed to upzoning but I would like to see it managed better. Start with the blighted urban areas that are already closer to employment and expand outward as demand dictates.

Opening up the entire state is going to result in dispersal of the redevelopment to the point where we end up with all of the downsides and none of the benefits.

So true....
Ironic how some folks got what they wished for....

Because they like to be with like professionals?

Services that they need are also within the center city. Attorneys, accountants, entertainment and lodging options for clients...

It is what it is.

Data entry type work can be done offsite but they need a presence.

The circuses need more clowns. They keep losing them to politics.

Why do some people like to gather and live in a densely built city?
Perhaps there are more opportunities for all kinds of things?

Downtown LA is not Downtown Chicago size. But lots of people are working on that right now.
Lots of people building at bat guano crazy speed in other parts of town too. It's a regular epileptic spasm of growth. Well, hopefully not.

I just wanna get the h!!! outta Dodge. Garcon, check please! :leeann2:

Nevermind.

Now if they prevent HOAs and cities from regulating lawns, home auto repair, flying the American flag, painting your house green, etc. I could like that as well.

I just love the HOA Nazi's don't you? That's a special kind of person. Especially older ones. Appraised a REO Condo in one of the Charlotte Uptown Towers. Subject happened to be on the same floor as the Queen Nazi of the Condo Association resided. She cornered me on her floor in the hallway, demanding I get the the Entrance door to the REO door knob assembly changed from the stainless steel to the approved Fake Brass colored assembly. Seems that are Locksmith Guy didn't get the Memo. I told her that I was just as outraged as her and showed her the special note I made on my Sheet, Asterisked and underlined not three times but FOUR times!
