Is this only for the previous cycle, or will it be random for prior cycles as well?

It should be interesting to see how many letters and phone calls you receive with people WHINING that they lost their certificates. It only takes 5 minutes to make a file and place them inside. :new_smile-l:

We already field the "my dog ate my certificate" calls.
Some of the providers have had their own issues...mostly technical in nature. This is why people need to keep this stuff.
We're currently doing the CE audit for the most recent cycle...but I routinely send out "spot" audits going back two cycles...as well as "spot" Experience Audits. You'd be surprised what we find. Then again...maybe you wouldn't.

We're not trying to play "gotcha"...but it isn't fair to the majority of appraisers who sit in classes or take stuff on-line...when a few chowderheads decide to just mark the box that they took all of their CE and never sat for any of it.

ALL of those complaints will go directly to the Board for a decision as to what kind of discipline awaits. So...essentially, your peers will dictate what happens. As it should be.

Brian: There's nothing wrong with "playing gotcha"...that's your job. Part of the reason that the housing and mortgage industries are in such a sad state is that the states didn't do exactly that.

Michigan makes the provider provide the information. It seems like a pretty good system to me. No cheating allowed for CE. If the provider does not verify (send in the info) you don't get the credit.

Why not just require the certificates to be mailed in at the time of renewal?

Nope, not surprised at all. The random audit is a good idea.

The ones who can't produce their CEs should be subject to a file audit. Heck, if they're shady enough to skip out on their CE, it makes you wonder what their work looks like.

If we are lied to...it goes to Prosecution and the offender's license will be in jeopardy. This is a quicker way to move these along. The penalties far outweigh the fees one would have paid had they taken what they swore to they took.

We have the course providers send us data as well...but there can be glitches in the transfer of data.
