Well, well, its my lucky day. I found two Zook homes that closed in the past 8 months. One in Park Ridge and another in Wheaton.

Zook also incorporated a spiderweb somewhere in the home when it was built, typically a masonry design over the fireplace mantle (the one I have has this) or with a custom window. Overall, an intersting assignment.

The name Zook is a real negative here in Florida, but I guess it is positive in Illinois. :rof:

Greg,

May be relevant IF you were talking about the same Zook- but this is a different guy.

Judy,

SO- now we know just about how old you are too!

We also had Harrison Ford (5 years ahead of me), Steve Goodman who was in my class (and on whom a new book has just been published- 800 pages long I'm afraid, but I am on 10 pages as we were close friends) and some notable others later on.

The breeding ground of excellence!

Brad

Judy,

There is an MAI in either Chicago or Oak Park by the last name of HOPPE ... he has done extensive studies on FLW properties and perhaps also on Zook. I had the pleasure of visiting him when I appraised a FLW property and he was very happy to share data with me.
Look him up with the Appraisal Institute and give him a call. He was a very nice and helpful man.
My best to you.

No! A different guy? Are you sure? Gee? I wish I had posted something relevant like Steve Goodman was in my class. :rof:

Thanks! I'll look him up and add him to my contact file.

Thanks! I found those while I was doing my research. I came across another article where one of Zooks homes was being torn down in Park Ridge. According to that article he and another architech designed the entire block. I searched for that street name and found a similar Zook Cotswold Style Cottage sale from May 1, 2007! Can't get luckier than that! Turned the report in yesterday.

Thanks everyone for your help! You guys are the best!

Judy

I did a Zook-designed house on Chicago Ave. in River Forest quite a few years ago. His signature, as you mentioned is a spider in a web. The house I did had a stained leaded bathroom window on the first floor. The leading was in a spider's web design and the spider, also done in stained glass, was in the center of the window.

At the time, houses of similar age, style, size and location were selling for the same price that the Zook house was selling. I took this to indicate that there was no market premium for the Zook. I could have been wrong, but that was my conclusion. You have sales of other Zook houses in the locations you mentioned. How will you separate the architect-factor from the location-factor?

Greg,

Sorry you are feeling left out.:rof: :rof: :rof:
