as if commercial appraisers were somehow above and better than mere residential appraisers
You mean....we're not??

as if commercial appraisers were somehow above and better than mere residential appraisers

Kenneth,
I think your post about the blonde driver didn't go far enough to illustrate this.
You are absolutely correct. The civility in this portion of the board makes it significantly different from the rest. To the degree that I brought personalities and personal attacks into this discussion, I apologize. To All ...
When these threads become personal they are no longer informative nor educational. Different people have different experiences, I personally dont think the issues within the commercial market are as pervasive as have been presented, but thats just me. My experiences are quite different than those of others.
In any event, personal attacks have no place here, and you certainly cant call me blonde, I have been blessed with the same affliction as Mr Wiley ... a no hair life.
Dane, congratulations on your achievement. Regardless of the opinion of some posters, it really does signify that you have done something special in the industry.(Newly Designated MAI - prefers not be referred to as a scumbag)
As compared to what? Your sample size of zero?Timothy - a sample size of 10 does not a study make.
But here, you are likely arguing against your own misconceptions. I have seen plenty of threads here suggesting so-called "comp checks" are literally "illegal" and impliclty immoral, a scourage, an evil. If someone has this hatred of comp checks, then that someone is likely to construe the comment that "I don't do comp checks" as playing supeior, rather than just a mere statement of fact. I have no reluctance to admit I would do comp checks, if the price was right, but it just doesn't come up.Being a commercial appraiser doesn't make you a better appraiser than a residential appraiser, it just means you appraise different properties.
Timothy - a sample size of 10 does not a study make. Especially when that sample is taken from a place where the cream of the crop hang out. This has a lot to do with timing - the commercial appraisers that have been around awhile, who have good established clients are not exposed to what's going on with the newer CGs and trainees trying to break into the business. That's where a lot of this crap is going on. I am not trying to paint all CGs or MAIs with a broad brush, but some are insisting on intepreting it that way and overreacting. I don't know why you think commercial is immune to the problems in residential, it's just taking longer to show up. I DO see a lot of snobbery here though as if commercial appraisers were somehow above and better than mere residential appraisers, and that does explain some of the animosity towards the "upper echelon". Being a commercial appraiser doesn't make you a better appraiser than a residential appraiser, it just means you appraise different properties. Some commercial appraisers couldn't appraise a house to save their life, they have no experience with it.
Whatever insult you're reading from my prior comments is assumed by you, and not intended by me. If you want to ignore what's going on in the commercial arena, just because it's not happening in your circles, then know that it WILL eventually come back to haunt you, even if you're not participating.
