Is it DDR1 or DDR2 RAM?

I just upgraded my AthlonX2 3800+ machine from 1.5Gb to 3Gb of DDR1 RAM this weekend.

DDR2......

Smokey - 512 currently and it's an XP, 3 years old, no problem with getting it up N runnin, it's the ,ulti-tasking that kicks it's butt. According to my friend it's the graphics stuff that loads up the memory (photo' n such).

OSU

thanks for the links - ordered up and should be shakin N bakin by the weeks end

Crucial for the suggested ram, Newegg for the PRICE.

I just upgraded mine from 512 to 1.5 and it makes a great difference.

In the past 3 months I have upgraded the ram in all my computers--some on my own; others with help of a technician. Two different computer geeks with engineering degrees noted that Windows XP is designed to utilize no more than 2 gigs. I have 4 gigs in one computer, and system only recognizes 2.8 gigs; same for one with 3 gigs. 1 of the engineers said that 4 gigs actually slows down XP. Vista can handle lots of ram, depending on the version, but I don't have enough time to even begin to talk about Vista nightmares. Ron Patton, Chattanooga, TN

OK - update, loaded my puter with 2 Gig and the secondary with 1Gig and it was noted via "reading" that the maximum for XP, as someone brought up is 2Gigs.

I still have a lil glitch somewhere, but it now runs way better and I get no jams at the crossroads of multi tasking. Don't know anything about Vista, and will stick with XP for as long as possible while the kinks are worked out on the other side.

Again, thanks for all the input

XP is using all of my 3Gb. All computers use part of the ram for BIOS or system so the available ram will show as less.

Are all four sticks snapped in there good?

Download, extract and run CPU-Z.

The tabs on the far right will report your ram speed.

Jay what is your glitch?

I see you stated graphics stuff, maybe you no video card as in builtin with no (V-Ram), may need to upgrade that.

Anti virus programs bog down computers, and worms (dup files and so on) fills hard drive up fast.

May need to back up hard drive and reformat hard drive and reload everything (programs) and back-up files, should run faster. I just did that last month.

It maybe a hike, but PCW Computers in Orange had Dell dual core computers on sale for $399. http://pcw-computer.com/
