Cont. Ed. is a Joke

<snip>
Bias classes have shown we have unconscious bias <snip>

A certain group of Germans during the 1940's had copious numbers of studies and "classes" that they claimed proved which races they believed were inferior were indeed inferior. They also wanted the world to believe that what they set out to "prove" was indeed proven by their studies and "classes" about those studies. Perhaps these "bias classes" are nothing more than an echo from out of the past that those who are up on history should see for what they really are. One would think that especially real estate appraisers, that must internally always fight the taking of a path to a self-fulfilling prophecy final opinion of value, would clearly see an educational topic that is guilty of doing just that.

On the other hand, there are also courses one can take to actually learn something new.
Indeed, they are but where are they offered? When fees were better, I took classes in Houston, Ruidoso, Denver, Tulsa, Okla City, & Ardmore, OK, Wichita, Albuquerque, & Murfreesboro, TN. They were usually 2-day events, real education, and typically more expensive than classes taught much closer. The online classes basically ended a lot of providers who developed classes. With only a few students to fund the class, it became a money loser for an independent provider. I can think of 4 regional providers who are no longer in business. And some of the better were bought out as the instructor retired - like Columbia and Lincoln. The availability of top flight classes are limited to large cities for the most part, with a few smaller towns offered by rural associations like ASFMRA.

So, with compensation for our services wholly inadequate, I don't blame anyone for taking the nearby cheap classes. After all, I'd had to spend up to 3 nights in a motel to take a class. The cost of the class was less than the motel bill. 3 days off work, travel expenses, motel, and class means well over $1,000 for 14 hours of CE. Meanwhile you net only $50-70k for appraising. Makes no sense.
