Curved Or Flat Monitor?

To expand on the widescreen: My home office is three walls of windows, looking back out the field and mountains. So the 'low profile' of a widescreen was important so I could be distracted by the wildlife in the back yard. :)
The LG has a 16" height.

I'm currently looking at monitors as well. I have no info regarding flat vs curved. To me the curved monitors just don't look right so I am not even considering them. I did look into the ultra wide, but like Randall said, we do a lot of up and down scrolling, so I want more vertical real estate as well. Inface, verticle space is what I really want.

If you look at pixel count, a 29" widescreen doesn't have any more vertical space than my current 22" standard screen. It gets me one more document to the side and thats it. Most 34' widescreens will give more vertical as well as horizontal space. But you do need to look at the pixel count. So where I have ended up is that I want a 4k monitor. If I remember correctly a 4K monitor will give me more pixel height and more pixel width than even a 34" wide screen.

The thing to be aware of then is scaling. Although a 27" 4k monitor has more pixel count than a widescreen, they will be too small to read unless you scale it up. Then you just lost your extra real estate. (Although you do gain incredible sharpness) So if you are really looking to gain real estate, I would look at a 4K monitor in the 32"+ sizes. That 43" that Randall linked to is very interesting.

Personally I am looking for a compromise between more clarity and more real estate. I want the clarity of a 4k but I only need the the extra real estate of a 1440p (vs my current 1080). When scaling issues are taken into consideration the perfect monitor for me is a 27"-30" 5K. Unfortunately, those 5ks start around $1000 for a 27". Plus all the extra video hardware. So for that reason I haven't purchased yet.

Here is a good site to compare pixel density of the different size monitors if your curious.

I finally got everything set up, after a long fee work weekend, I have to say I'm pleased with the monitor option I chose (LG 29UM68-P). My spectre handles the monitor easily and video options are real nice. The 16" vertical is perfect, leaving plenty of space to view the outdoors. The picture is awesome for tv/movies and probably exceeds what's required for appraisal software. I ended up, for now, utilizing 1/3 of the screen for the software resulting in a clear and easily readable font size.
