DayOne Still Operating, Says Dennis Steiner

David,

I only use it on 1 computer and it has been fine as far as being stable. Definitly some quirks, but it keeps runnning.

I do know some that run it on a network and they have nothing but problems.

I have used Day One since 1987 and plan to continue using it until it dies. However Mike--do your comments mean there will finally be corrections to the photo bugs and GLA bugs? I have worked around them since Windows came out and now it is just habit to quadruple check my comp photo pages and reset the attributes in GLA.

My whole business is dependant upon my data base that I have been creating in Day One for eleven years and if anything happened to that I would have to close down!

Jo Ann hi! If I have anything to say about it, yes. There are a couple of things I don't like about a couple of the forms that I will be pushing to have fixed. Mike Grubbs in our office as well is working on these on top of tech support as well. The problem we always had with our old parent company was that they were so fixated on other projects, not enough attention was paid to the one product that thousands of appraisers were using and depend on daily. We and I hope that Zaio will reverse that thinking.

As much as folks hate to hear it...their shelving of AppraisalAnywhere for the time being to focus on Nova and the products currently in use is a definate step in the right direction.

Photo Bugs?

Nova most certainly does work on a Network, provided it is set up correctly. Problems might occur should more than one person attempt to work on the same file at the same time...but provided your Network is stable, Day One works like a charm.

I am a one person office, no networks--networks scare me to death. What I have been griping about since 1997 is when I retrieve my comparables from my very important data base, then decide to switch them around, the photos don't follow. So then the photo that was originally Comp #6 and now is Comp #2 still has the original Comp #2 photo. Or if I have assigned six comps to the file for example then decide I need to do a new search and replace some of the comps, the photos get scrambled and now instead of the right ones I have the photos from the first search regardless of which comps I have finally decided on. But after eleven years of fighting that I know I absolutely, very definitely, very last check have to check my comp photo pages. By the way I did a review of a report by another office completed in Ala Mode/Total recently--it looks like they have a similar problem, wrong photos from comps the original appraiser had considered but not used. And the other absolute check I have to do is check the attributes for the GLA and price per square foot. Long as I remember to do my last minute checking before creating the pdf file, everything is fine.

ah ok...yes...well...with the calculations, especially with reports with more than 3 comps(which is nearly all now-a-days), one thing you might consider if you do alot of the comps shuffling in a report would be use the "Re-calculate All Fields" function, which is in the Utilities menu in Nova. When you are ready to PDF your report, prior to signing it, click this link. This SHOULD re-do all the math throughout the report using the values in the respective fields. Of course...please for now continue your last minute check up...but do it after you hit this Re-Calculate link...I'd like to hear if that helps/helped at all.

Now...should it automatically re-calculate as you shift things around...I believe so, and that is on the list I have for Zaio...but for now that might be a solid alternative.

As far as the pics are concerned as you shift comps...that would be a complete re-write of how the grid talks to the addenda for Nova...not impossible...just more of a project.

Experimenting with the Recalculate all fields function now. Remembered another gripe and it has nothing to do with reshuffling comps. I hope of the the "fixes" includes automatic calculation of the square footage adjustment for Comps #4 to #9 when inserting comps from the data base. I have to reenter the GLA for each of those comps for the adjustment to calculate.

Mike, Nova working fine in a citrix enviroment also working fine in a RDP with the exception of photo movement from client to network but I hear that small business server 03 RDP will solve it, can you comment on this
