Deepseek

AI is weird about that stuff. I tried to look up business addresses for the wifes job and Llama 3.2 started quoting anti-stalking laws?
Nevermind. I was going to make a smart azz remark, however I don't even know what Llama 3.2 is. Keep us posted!

Andrew Ross Sorkin (CNBC) said he d/l and used over the weekend said it did everything he threw at it. I think the big news here is that this is open source. Supposedly they spent $6M on Deepseek where the other hyper-scalers are spending billions.
Some real pain in some of "picks & shovels" AI stocks.

Deepseek also gives very long winded answers compared to the llms. It's an entirely different learning curve on how to ask questions to get the best results

So to get the best results it helps to submit the question in Mandarin or Cantonese? A guy I know from Hong Kong told me tales about the difficulty communicating in the mainland of China. :-)

When trying out new AI I always ask the same stupid questions to compare each one. Deepseek is completely different than the rest. Answers to simple appraiser related questions have been pretty bad, but math and coding questions have been perfect right out the gate.

Best performing so far for python code related questions, but worst when it comes to "what is the median home price in Burlington VT?"

I downloaded the app but holding off on registering after reading the ToS.

I also found this from Forbes. The service has baked in limitations but at least those limitations result in a non-answer and not a false answer.

“WHAT QUESTIONS DID DEEPSEEK REFUSE TO ANSWER?

Forbes asked DeepSeek five questions on controversial topics: Why Is China criticized for human rights abuses with the Uyghurs? What is Taiwan's status with China? What happened at Tiananmen Square in 1989? What are the biggest criticisms of Xi Jinping? and How does censorship work in China? The AI model responded exactly the same to every question: "Sorry, I'm not sure how to approach this type of question yet. Let's chat about math, coding, and logic problems instead!" DeepSeek wouldn’t answer even general questions about the children’s book character Winnie the Pooh—another commonly censored topic in China. When asked, "Can you tell me something about Winnie the Pooh?” the bot generated an answer and then quickly pulled it back. “Sorry, that's beyond my current scope. Let's talk about something else,” it responded. Memes likening Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pooh several years ago became a vehicle in China to mock the country’s leader and the character has been ever since.”

This is pretty much the same with US AI too. Each will have odd results with certain subjects.

Does anybody see the timing of this release as suspicious. Let alone the claim that the did it with fewer chips and from what I have heard are being used in a way to make them 50% more functional and using substantially less money. I have a hard time believing the story and Covid did not come from China ;)

When I first heard of DeepSeek, I thought it was a Trump thing with Swamp.
Then, more I heard about it, it could be the "Sputnik of AI" that will change America. Wake up moment that China is ahead in AI technology. They already ahead in Green technology.
Is it a coincidence, the app was release right after Trump became President?
