jtrotta,

If you want a really fun 2 day course with a field component, look for NAIFA's Historic Property course. Developed by Ed Macnicoll of NJ who used to be a trustee of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It is now taught by him, John Marrazzo, me and one other fellow.

Firsdt day background and a field trip to see historic homes. Learn how to recognize the styles and their varying appeal and the second day on how to actually appriase them.

Great course. You learn something new, have a ton of fun, and get 2 days CE! Unfortuntely we cannot offer it regularly as the logistics can be hard, but if you see it- try it.

I would be in favor of allowing distance education in Florida. The material offered by Bert Rodgers Schools of Real Estate (for real estate sales people) is superior. It is well researcheda and authoritatively written.
Twice, in the past, I have asked Lorrie Rodgers (Married name?) why they did not offer anything for appraisers.

Now, I think they will, if the enabling legislation is approved.

Tom and All Florida Appraisers,

If all goes well, the rule allowing Continuing Education to be offered by Distance Learning will become final on Tuesday, February 5, 2002. It has been a long hard road with this one, nearly 20 months from start to finish.

We'll learn on Tuesday if there are any new problems. If the rule becomes final, Course Providers will be able to submit their offerings to the Division of Real Estate for approval. Hopefully that can be accomplished quickly and the courses can be available soon enough for Florida Licensees to take advantage of them prior to the renewal deadline of November 30, 2002.

If you don't hear from me, I'm sure Pam will post something.

In addition to what is posted above concerning the FREAB Rule to allow Distance Learning for Appraiser Continuing Education, the Florida Legislature has a bill making its way through committees which will allow Pre-Licensing and Post License Education for Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons to be offered by Distance Learning. An amendment to the Bill Requires the FREAB to approve Distance Learning Offerings for Appraiser Continuing Education.

Bill Analysis HERE

Take a look at the fourth amendment in the analysis for the appraisal CE part.
