Any cures for a 255 error?

Any cures for a 255 error?

E255 - Receiver signal too low, measuring time too long, distance too long, measuring time > 10 sec.

Use target plate.

Switch on/off the device several times.

Tried all the suggested cures, without success. Knew there was a reason I purchased a backup Disto last year.

Fresh batteries.

I still use the old classic Disto brick and I occasionally get the 255 error. It seems to happen when I shoot the beam at a bright target (like a white fence) while it is in the direct sunlight. In contrast, it also happens when the target is too dark (like shooting at a black wrought iron fence). Whenever the error occurs, my solution has always been to shoot at a more neutral colored target.

thats weird i get the 255 error on my rather new e7500 if i accidentally hit the laser measure button too many times in a row without getting a result. i wait a sec and retry and it works.

I usually see that error when sunlight is shining into the receiving lens. Clean the lens or try shadowing it.
