Ditchs On Dirt Roads

In southern Louisiana, it's called a swamp. :D

Depends here in my home county. We have a complex series of ditches that channel the river water out and to farmlands and mini acreage tracts. If there are 'outs' and 'gates', it's an irrigation ditch. No, seriously we call them bar ditches here too. Storm sewers involve underground channeling of the runoff into wastewater plants. Bar ditches, it just evaporates or mucks up the yard of the house at the end of the low spot. :D

Caterina why not call them "deco arroyos" and impress the underwriters? :-)

Yes, I guess they would be man made arroyos now that you mention it.

LOL! I once used the term 'mesa' and flummoxed an underwriter from back east. Sigh, OK, it's an escarpment. Hey, at least I give her credit for reading the report. Most don't even do that much.

forgive my ignorance, but for 10 years now I've just put in "ditch". I see "bar ditch" on alot of reports I review. What the heck is the "bar" is "bar ditch"? I guess I'm just too much of an uppity city appraiser to know that. :)

Thanks,
Michael

They're called "ditches" here. The "Bar" is where you were before you ended up in the ditch.

:D But after your bar-ditch experience, no need to call the law..... just wait a bit. A couple of good 'ol boys will come by in a pickup truck to snatch you right outta thar. No need to offer any money..... they live for that kinda thing.
