Do you work on Sunday?

I do because it's open house day.
Since I don't do much real residential work in urban settings, I don't make an open house usually. And they are no Sunday here because we have a lot of seventh day Adventists- both buyers and agents and they will not work on Saturday.

No one offers open house for mobile homes, ranches or stores. In fact, many stores won't even have a for sale sign as they fear it will negatively impact the business.

I think far too many have been conditioned to think 9-5 Monday through Friday is a requirement and are like a flea in a jar with the lid removed. IMO being self-employed means you work when you wish and as often as you wish. I remember being berated on one of the trashy face book groups, all Facebook appraisal groups are white trash is you ask me but that’s another topic. Anyway, I mentioned seeing a property on a weekend and you would have thought I robbed a bank. There are some weekends I feel like working, maybe 2 hours, maybe 8 hours, it’s up to me. Some days I start writing reports at 5 AM. There are some Tuesdays and Wednesdays I don’t hit a lick. It’s called freedom. I can relate to the surly tenant in the George Thorogood song “One bourbon, One Scotch and One beer”

The landlady said, "You got the rent money yet?"
I said, "No, can't find no job
Therefore, I ain't got no money to pay the rent"
She said, "I don't believe you're tryin' to find no job"
Said, "I seen you today, you were standin' on a corner
Leaning up against a post"
I said, "But I'm tired

Self employment means I choose when I’m tired or energetic.

I talked the talk and I walked the walk but now at my age, I sit the sit.

For my last 4 years as an appraiser, I worked a 9-to-5 job at PennDot. I would turn on my computer at 9 a.m., log off at 5 p.m., and leave for the day. I enjoyed free weekends, paid continuing education, excellent benefits, and paid holidays.

In the 40 years before that, I worked every day when necessary. I suppose that was the price of freedom.

Now, as a Premier Data Collector, only when I want to.
