Dress code

Good thread.

When I interviewed for the first job I got in this biz, I wore a suit and tie. The company owner told me it looked nice but I was overdressed!

I never wear a tie, but try to dress appropriately for the place I'm going to. High end, low end. Although around here even a lot of the big bucks types dress real casual. Go figure.

The other day I had to appraise a couple of gay guys condo.

Any recommendations on what I should have worn there? Should I have dress up in drag? Lace panties? High heels?

Just curious.

Bob,
Wear good running shoes, or leather chaps....your choice.

Jeff, The tee shirts are a really bad idea :D You are not operating a landscape service. Same goes for jeans and baseball caps.

in winter i wear big leather lace up boots and they get real muddy!
warm ups and a big ski jacket, everyone thinks im going snow boarding after im done with them, but actually im not. Ive ruined enough clothes walking around homes with phitzers bushes, rose bushes, climbing over fences, jumping down retaining walls, running from dogs, working on sub zero windy days etc.
I take my boots off before I go in however.

Summertime its shorts, polo shirt and good running shoes.

>>Never, Never, Never, blue jeans !!!!! ???

How about those farms? Doncha feel just a little out of place in wool pants or high heels? I have several shirts, pin stripe with my logo - what else, a Shield with Griffith and Co. Name above it. Think it goes with anything, Levis, carpenter pants, Khaki, or wood pants. Shoes for the job. Boots - farm, wing tips or penny loafers - town. I have a thing about no tennies.

Worse than what you wear is how clean it is. Worst case I know was a fellow like myself, which you might refer to as a "portly" gentleman, but in knee pants, red sox and Birginstocks [i dont wear em so i cant spell em], Carhart pocket T-shirt and 2 kids, annoying little bas----s into everything. Had apparently been crawling under houses. Realtor was ready to kill him and his children.

I keep a couple of Tevik disposable overalls under the seat. I buy them from Forestry Supply out of Mississippi. Quick way to check under a house when necessary...They last several uses.

One More Time:

A review of all of the posts up to now seem to reinforce what I last said:

Location, Location and Location.

The New York, New Jersey and North Carolina posts all say "no Jeans", while you all in the South, Central and West apparently can (and in some cases must) be more casual. Certainly, if jeans are going to seperate me from the Law or the Tax Man in the applicant's eyes, then so be it.

I would still like to know the opinion of more Northeasterners.

When I was in those gay guy's house, I dropped my pencil. I kicked that S.O.B. out the door, through the parking lot, and all the way out to my truck before I bent over to pick it up.

Can't be too careful.

ter,

I'd like nothing more than to wear my birks (birkenstocks)

BUT momma (and common sense) said they are a no no for work (outside the home that is!) I'll save them to go with my tye-dies!

Hey....do those Wood pants get heavy?? (just kidding)

I agree with the "clean"part!! Yes I wear jeans (no holes or rips) and ALWAYS a shirt with a collar.....and in the summer....good Leather "Snake Boots".

BB,

I'm sure your client's customers were not interested in you. Your virtue remains intact.
