Wow Head Surfer, must be making the real jack, is he/she an appraiser

Wayne,

Would this computer work for a server. Our church has a old computer that five others back up the files on. It only has a 40 gig hard drive and is about 10 years old.

I didn't pay any more for the 64bit system, it came on the computer. Only a few programs are 64bit, but more and more are coming online. Internet Explorer is 64bit and I have a couple of other programs that are 64 bit. Of course it runs the 32 bit programs just fine. If you want to use more than 3GB of RAM you need a 64bit system. You can install 4GB in a 32bit system but it only recognizes max. of 3GB.

I think Vista got a bad rap. Of course I am using SP1, maybe the older versions were buggy, but SP1 is fine.

It's hard to answer that without knowing more. I assume the 5 computers are networked? If you just want something to back up files on why not get a 250GB to 500GBs external hard drive and a router with a USB port and all the computers can access the external drive speedily via the network. That way you don't have to buy another computer just to use for backup, and it would be a lot cheaper also.

Thanks again for tip about MicroCenter. I drove out to the one in Cleveland, after taking off my Steeler license plate, and picked up a Dell with Windows XP. Had them add a few extra USB ports and a parallel connection for an old printer. Was out the door in about an hour. They have some great deals there.

I have one a few miles from my house, fantastic store.

I despise Vista. If you buy a new computer, don't waste the 100 bucks to "downgrade it" when you get the computer simply format it, and reinstall your XP from your XP disk (or other source if you're like that). You'd have to install Appraise It (or w/e) on your new computer anyway.
