Exterior Photo Requirements!

I once had a borrower complain to the lender about my car being in the front photo. I had just come from another appointment that included several miles of sloppy muddy dirt road and my car was dirty. The front from the windsheild forward was visible.

I can't say I blame them. The photo is supposed to show a house, not a house with an ugly looking car in front of it. And I'm hpoing you did not park in their driveway, that is simply unprofessional unless there is no street parking available.

Although the time frame would be off and its an overhead shot Bing aerial, birds eye view allows for views of all sides.

That's fine for showing external influences as a supplemental photo, but not acceptable for subject photos unless the SOW specifically did not require the appraiser take "original" photos.

Come on guys, is this really an issue these days. Digital pix, multiple pages available, just shoot all four sides.
It was nice measuring a simple ranch, my mentor said only measure the 2 sides, unless it's not square you can save time. But CYA and just walk around the house.

I usually shoot four exterior subject photos and all are angles showing front/right, rear/left, etc.

Most photos of "sides only" look pretty stupid and don't show the intended user much of anything useful.

Read the original post. It mentions doing a review that did not include side photos. Thats why I mentioned the Bing limitations in my post.

Ideally the photos should show all four sides but sometimes that just isn't possible. As a reviewer you can comment on it if you want; HOWEVER, that is really nit picky and well beyond what is required. Stick to the real issues.

I also concur that there should be some requirements on people who do reviews. The first would be COMMON SENSE. I would like to see endorsements on an appraiser's license for specialties such as:

Supervisory Appraiser
Reviewer
Appraisal Instructor
Complex appraisal
Water Front properties
Income Properties

Just to name a few.
