Gobalization has benefitted many including our stock market and consumers. Win Win situation.Even Paul Krugman admitted globalization had been less than what he expected. Perot was right. The giant sucking sound was our jobs leaving for Mexico and China. Trump renegotiated NAFTA to get a fairer deal for the USA. NAFTA destroyed jobs and entire industries. Appliance manufacturing for one. And even low tech. Farmers used to grow broom corn used in straw brooms - and they made brooms in Alabama. NAFTA literally destroyed the broom corn market overnight and sent it to Mexico.
It lowered wages. That mean lower incomes and means people cannot afford your high rents. That's why some of your businesses stay unleased for months. Surely you understand that a vacant space is a money pit, not a money maker. We had a plant that made plastic lawn chairs 30 years ago. It's gone and that plant has been empty for years. Likewise, we had a Franklin Electric plant that made submersible pump motors - not the pump, just the motor. Notorious for long life in a well. No so anymore. They fail about 10 years on average. Made in Mexico now and that plant has been vacant at least 20 years...and for sale and for sale...on and on. Nobody has a use for it. I think it will be redeveloped and the plant building taken down eventually. And the land (about 20 ac.) will be developed into housing on the back side and commercial buildings along the highway frontage.
